Heed engine bars
« on: January 12, 2019, 20:44:57 »
Hello gang.

This one is about getting some engine bars for my XT 650 2018. Options were OEM ( too expensive for what they are), GIVI (too small, not updated for 2017-2018), and HEED (a Polish company with expertise in engine guards and belly pans). Went for the last one as it was the right size and it seemed to protect the upper fairing as well. Quick delivery from ebay, well wrapped. Easy install, clear instructions, 30-60 mins. They look great and I like the way they complement the motor. Do not want to put them to test though.
You can get it from here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ENGINE-GUARD-HEED-CRASH-BARS-Suzuki-DL-650-V-STROM-2017-now-/173723263614

Just installed mine today, and the long engine bolt that is supplied seems to be 1 or 2 mm too short, it doesn't reach the end of the nut. If I remove the washer on the nut side, it seems to be OK, but then again the washers are there for a reason.

I have a 2018 DL1000XT, I was wondering if anyone else has had the same experience with it.

Not a problem with mine, but again, they're different models.

I’ve got the Heed bars and sump guard. Very impressed. Think they’re good quality and offer good value for money compared to other similar products 👍

Got a reply from Heed:

"Hello
Thank you for your interest in our product. The bolt is calculated to be possibly close to the motorcycle (not protruding). Therefore in rare individual cases nut is not totally filled. However it is quite easy to resolve it. On both sides of the bolts are used 2 mm washers, which protect the paint. It is enough to use thinner washers and problem is fixed."

Not much of an advice. Hope this helps though.
