Satnav memory card query
« on: November 18, 2020, 07:53:10 »
I have a Garmin LM340 and an installed memory card. When I connect it to my PC for updates etc. it is shown to be empty.  It does not seem to ever store any of my data, so what is the memory card for?
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

If it's like my Garmin you can use it for playing music. The memory card can be used for storing your tunes on. Also, you can buy maps for areas not included on the unit that take up a lot of space. When I worked in the service department at work I had the north America maps on a card for when I travelled about round there. That map was supplied on a memory card.
Old enough to know better, but still too young to care...

If you plan routes / waypoints on Basecamp then I'd guess you can download them to the memory card. Many Garmins have a limit on the number of routes stored in the GPS, this can get around it as you only import them when needed.

I have a LM390 and when doing a map update for UK and Europe it said I did not have enough memory for the latest update and I had to add a memory card. Which I did , and after the update I removed the memory card to find that that Zumo is now empty of map data and the latest maps were put on the memory card. But it all works fine.
