Car battery advice please
« on: June 14, 2019, 22:57:34 »
The battery in my 2015 Honda Jazz  ( yeah I know) has died. I have put it on trickle charge and got it from 7.6 volts up to 13.7 volts but I doubt it will last. The car was OK when I parked it up and the next morning all the electrickery had drained away. How do I tell if it is a battery fault or something wrong with the charging system. Also the battery is 35 amp hour 290 A , do I have to buy the exact same. It is a Varta and they do a 35 amp 400 A version will that be OK?

Dave, you need to attach some load to the battery and see if the volts vanish before your eyes. That will tell you that a cell has died.

The important things to look for in a replacement are that they're the same size, the terminal polarity matches and the amp rating is at least equal. A few more cranking amps available won't go wrong.

Update:- After 14 hours on trickle charge I installed the battery and so far it is behaving normally. I still don't know what caused it to go flat.  But having just shelled out £135  for a new front suspension top housing on the Doblo I was not looking forward to getting my wallet out again.
