Healtech X-TRE Powerbox
« on: May 29, 2021, 21:33:36 »
Hi, I'm looking for some feedback from anyone who has fitted a Healtech X-TRE Powerbox to thier Vstrom 1000, I have a 2018/19 model and would love to hear your views, positive, negative before I decide if it's worth the money.

Thanks in advance

Glenn

If you search X-Tre on here you will find a bit of stuff to read while waiting on replies.

Can't answer for the 2019 model but on my 14 the x-tre made a huge difference.  Mine was one of the cough, stumble, stall bikes and I was for selling it on but thought I'd try this one thing, been on there ever since. Much smoother, never stalls and no noticeable fuel cut either.
I did read on another forum the wiring loom is different on the 17 on bikes than the 14 on but Healtech I'm sure will keep you right.  It is a bugger to fit, well not difficult, it's just getting up the courage up to find and cut that wire for the gear indicator.
Hope this helps in some way, good luck.

Hello again,
Thanks for the feedback on the timing retard devices, I have another quick question, are the plugs for these devices easy to get to or do you have to remove the tank etc ?

Thanks again for your help

hi there, fitted x tre to my 2019 vstrom xt 1000. the tank can stay on, remove, offside trim below tank & seat, to gain access to your gear selector plug. healtech x tre  piggybacks out of that.  well worth fitting, makes a big diffrence.

Hi Wheelyking,

Thanks for the info, didn't fancy taking all the tank off but if it's just a case of removing the side panel 👍
The Healtech xtre I believe requires cutting into the ECU loom to allow the gear indicator to work as normal ? I'm guessing the units without this extra connect do the same job but the gear indicator just shows 5th unless in neutral ?
Not keen on cutting into the loom to be honest and the others I've seen are a fair bit cheaper 🤔

Yes you need to cut into the loom to keep the gear indicator working. The tre will work OK without cutting in but you'll not have the gear indicator. I ran about for a month or two  before I got the courage up to cut but once I'd tried the bike with the tre and without I had to fit, it made that much of a difference.
The Boosterplug also seems to work well, no cutting needed but you do have to remove the tank but that's not a difficult job, 15 minutes with practice.

Hello again, well would you believe it, I found a used TRE on eBay that happened to be 10 miles up the road from where I live, won it on eBay for £10.
Fitted it this afternoon and I have to say I'm impressed with the result, does leave the gear indicator in 5th unless it's in neutral but for a tenner I can live with that 👍 thanks for all your help and feedback, I think that's the best £10 I've spent on a bike 😁
