New DL250 member from Eastbourne
« on: June 29, 2019, 12:19:58 »
Hello, great to find this forum!

Well, I took the plunge and bought a new (2018 pre reg) baby Strom. Red and black.

I’m returning to biking after a 5 year break. Previously ridden a mix of 125’s and as large as a 600cc bike. Favourite of them all was a Kawasaki GPZ400R grey import, many years ago back in the late 90’s. Last bike prior to the DL250 was a 110cc scooter.

Anyhow, first ride of the DL250 home from the dealership and I’m wondering what I’ve become myself into. Running it in, keeping to under 5,000 revs I don’t think the bike is in its sweet spot. It wants to go. Haven’t been able to find a gear or RPM it feels settled at (not that I want to stay at any one rev number for too long whilst running in). Also at the running in recommendations, I’m only getting speed of 45mph tops. Have I got to stick to this for a 1,000 miles? I hope not. Anyhow, guess I should check other posts / post a new thread for that.

I have lots of questions. I’ll post new threads for those.

Typing on a small screen phone, so I’ll keep it short. Looking forward to reading posts and gaining knowledge. Perhaps I’ll post a review of my bike once I’ve had it a few months and put on some miles.

I wonder if there’s any members from around Eastbourne and surrounding areas I might see on my travels?

Aiming to keep it rubber side up always,
Jason

A most excellent introduction Jason.

I'm one of the few baby V-STROM owners! It's a great little bike, don't let the big boys on here bully you, there's some right p takers about, but they are a really great bunch of characters :old:

:welcome2: to you, and a nice bike you have chosen.
Running it in you can rev it a bit more as you get a few miles on it,say after 100 miles.
Trick is, don't lug it at low revs, try to avoid full throttle for anything more than short bursts, play with the gears to keep it spinning at mid revs, and try to vary the revs rather than holding them constant for miles.
Modern engines are very well built,to the extent a lot of folk just ride them as they intend to.
So in a sentence, just try not to thrash it, but a little blast won't hurt now and then.
