Why don't people learn
« on: April 15, 2019, 17:17:49 »
For the next 2 weeks it's National mobile phone enforcement.
Today was the first day 2 of us in an unmarked truck with Go Pro cameras stuck everywhere.
In one shift 12 tickets for phone's(4 truck drivers) .. 1 ticket  for without due care .. 1 prohibition  and one foreign lorry driver laid up for driver hours offences.

I love the unmarked truck.

Stay safe you professional drivers.

creeping forward in a mini jam in my Honda Jazz and the woman behind stared at her lap for about 25 minutes as we all inched forward. I was waiting for the bang as she shunted me down the road but I must say she had sufficient spacial awareness to be able to move her car without actually looking up and stare at her phone without incident. I am thinking of getting a rear mounted camera.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Top man Holmsey, if only there was a sufficient budget for a dedicated nationwide roads policing unit.

(Keeping away from "B" roads and anywhere else I like to enjoy my motorbike.)
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Brockett, I believe some modern cars have some technology to prevent rear ending in traffic.

They are nowt but killers stalking the roads, mobile phone users. Noticed a few recently hiding the phone in their upraised hoodies while using it and driving. ###

I think you need to up your game a lot. a truck, go pro's everywhere, fuel, two officers wages + planning and you only distribute 12 tickets? The Sweeney would be embarrassed

They've been doing a similar initiative with West Midlands police if I remember right.

I'm all for it.  Bet it's quite good fun in a way too.  I see people using their phones daily whilst out on the road.

How about this coming home tonight on the M66 I was on my bike spotted a white Audi Q7 being driven erratically when I rode past woman driver (not being sexist) was putting her make up on looking down at I presume was a bag on her lap coming out with some powder swaying all over the road not clever

That's a coincidence Bomber ... I too had a similar encounter with a female driving a White Q7 only she was texting .... I politely asked her to put it down .... what's it got to Do with you she said in a rough Essex accent. .... not a lot I said but I'll send you a ticket in the post...... Wot  are you a copper ?? ...
No I said .... I work for ticket master....

Unfortunately my helmet cam did not capture it as the battery died.

Still another good day today .... I'm out I  the lorry tomorrow so be careful in London people

I don't get why there are not that many coppers on bikes if like mine I can see right into vehicles and in the morning when I'm going to work the things I see that are illegal or dangerous are scary and wonder why there are not more accidents

It'd also let the police smell the weed seems to come from a lot of cars around here.

the smell of weed is everywhere and the use of phones in cars is an epidemic..why don't we pass laws that match the potential offence.. It is like drink driving,, should be 12 months ban and a £1000.. maybe that wold stop it.

Unfortunately it's quicker, easier, and probably much cheaper, to rake in the profits from scamera vans than to employ coppers to hunt out the phone users and "junkies".

I'm with Tusker on this, increase the punishment.
Round my way I get to see someone on the phone every few minutes, including lorry drivers.
These laws need enforcing more heavily.
