my first longish ride yesterday along the A59 up until then I was wondering what all this turbulence stuff was about...

But,, now I have cruised at err  70 ish for longish distances I see what you all mean.

I'm 5' 10" and the effort required to keep my head still left me aching this morning  :old:  :old: !!!!!!

I'm also told that my model DL650K7X  has a smaller screen than standard..

So  ,,, what to do ?????

Do the screens you all talk about fit the X model as well as others, I'm presuming the answer is yes..

Don't see why not... was the X model very different? If you want the Givi Airflow you're after AF260 in this list.

I've looked at the Airflow, not cheap.. I'm pretty sure it's the mirrors that are messing up the airflow, if the mirrors were mounted on the fairing, before the screen, the standard screen would be fine for me..

Are mirrors compulsory on road bikes?

Remove them and go for a run, you'll soon prove your deduction wrong/right.

Yes, the thought had occurred.. I think what's stopping me is the thought that I'll have to consider removing them permanently if it is them.. Or find a screen wide enough to take them out of the airflow, could get expensive..

There is a fairly obvious alternative to removing them of course...
You can either:
1) Find and fit mirrors which are more "aerodynamically compatible" with the VStrom's configuration... or...
2) Modify the stock mirrors to be more "aerodynamically compatible" with the VStrom's configuration.

I already suspect that bringing the mirrors forward and using a suitably wide screen as to cut out all airflow over the mirrors is going to probably be the best way of reducing buffeting.
Luckily I have such a windscreen arriving sometime this week (sooner the better). I can also extend the mirrors and bring them forward to see what this does.

I'll post results as I test various things!

I had one, but sent it back as it didn't work for me above 60 mph.

strangely, I thought it looked good on the bike though!

At last I can contribute!

So excited, fitted my new Givi Airflow this afternoon (2007 Vee) ... Took all of 10 minutes!

It is currently on the OEM bracket on its lowest position.  The adjustable part of the screen I kept on its lowest position.

Out for a spin, not able to go over 70......bloody wonderful!  Best money I've spent on a bike in a long while.
No vibration, visor up.. No problem there,  standard mirrors as well!

I read on posts that it is expensive, but I feel its worth it. The bottom screen is slightly wider than the original, but there is no fowling of mirrors or hand guards.

If it helps,  I'm 5'10, shoulders are wide (not fat, wide).  :)))

Now had the screen for a while, various speeds etc!

Assuming no head wind!

Found that at up to about 70 mid height adjustment is good.. Ride visor up...

Over this I found lowering the screen better than higher...

Used the standard bracket, and have no regrets!

Hope this helps.

Still trying to make my mind up about mine... I'm 6'3" and find that with the screen as high as possible there is no wind blast directed at my helmet, but there is a bit of helmet buffeting. It's not terrible though so I'm thinking I may live with it. We'll see...

No, I hadn't heard about that? As it happens, I have a Sat Nav mount that is spacing the top mounts a bit, so if spacing the bottom mounts is the way to go then my current setup is probably even worse than usual!

I'll have a go at spacing out the bottom mounts and see what happens... thanks for the advice!

I've read a lot about how good the airflow screen is so I've sent for one and will let you know how I find it ...

Got one on my Tenere, also had one on my GS, both worked very well, but I am tempted to try a Madstad - maybe with the Airflow as well

I'm 6ft and have fitted the airflow to the middle screw holes and set to the highest level, with stock mirrors.
I thought it was great, changed the comfort imensly.
Duel carridgeway speeds with visor up.
The ride was only 10 or 15 miles so will be intersted to know how it is after a long ride. I had my eldest daughter with me and she noticed less turbulance aswell, she is around 5'10" and she didn't have to have visor down either.

Been using this screen for couple hundred miles now,set on top mounting holes fully extended, and finding things odd.
When riding 2 up I have no turbulance, I can keep the visor up and have a gentle draft on my face all the way upto motorway limits.
Riding solo, whilst it is ten times better I can feel my head bobble at around 60-65 and it is a lot windier on my face so comfier with visor down.
Am thinking its the extra weight lifting the nose up slightly, so may have to try putting shims under the bottom screws as suggested for other screens, if that fails may have to try different mirrors.
