After thinking it over I took Mr Nicks Advice (originally suggested by Oop North John) and went down the left handed drill bit route (thank you both).
Out she came………eventually, no damage to lid  job done.

Great it worked  :)

Easy outs are the work of the devil, along with disc locks in my opinion!

Easy-outs more often only succeed in replacing a soft broken bolt with a hardened broken extractor... Good that you sorted it though.

I don't mind extractors, but only if you can drill dead centre and get the biggest one in that you can without damaging the thread in the surrounding part. They work better on bigger screws where there's a bit of strength in the extractor itself.

I’m sold on left handed drill bits, have to say it was a little bit tricky but took things very very slowly and avoided any damage.
The best thing of all is I can now (after adjusting the base plate) close the visor tightly shut with one hand, and it doesn’t foul on any other part of the helmet.
So I consider myself lucky, that’ll teach me but on the other hand I’ve got a feel for using left handed drill bits it’s all good experience :thumb:
