Long lasting or what !!
« on: October 31, 2020, 16:35:57 »
Hello all just reading another thread about new motorcycle boots.....got me thinking, do any members have any piece of kit that has truly stood the test of time and they are reluctant to part with.......mine are my boots.....ALTBERG....( they were popular with the forces )....
not strictly motorcycle footwear but fully waterproof and very comfortable..... Altberg would also fit a gear lever pad on the boot if required and also offered a full refurbishment service...... I purchased mine in 2004 ( and a pair for the wife )....we only use them for our tours...still as good as new......QUALITY !! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Altbergs boot for me as well.

Wore a set out after 12 years and 1 re-furb visit back to the factory . Shame they stopped doing re-furbs as I'm sure they same boots would be with me now  :thumb:

New pair at the beginning of the year - still breaking them in

+1 for Altberg, had a pair of Clubmans about 25 yrs ago, in 2009 (I only know this as the new set has a date inside) I went to the works en-route back from Scotland and purchased a pair of lighter lace up boots. The sales person asked me what I planned to do with my Clubmans and offered a refurbishment for £50 including posting back to me.I accepted his offer and I have just started wearing them again this year,as I call them my”winter boots”and keep the lighter lace-ups for summer use only. Both pairs are totally waterproof. The refurb.included new soles(the old ones were worn out) new velcro and new linings, a bargain in my opinion.

Boots again. This time my Daytona Roadstar GTX. Bought in 2002, I had them resoled by Daytona about 5 years ago. Just this year the rubber pads on the top for the gear change etc has cracked and so I've removed them. Still totally waterproof though and very comfy for off the bike.

I concur, My Altberg's are relatively new (2013) and have covered 60-70,000 miles; they remain waterproof in the heaviest of storms and are very comfortable. :text-goodpost:

Yup, my ancient (1990's?) Alt-bergs are still going strong and waterproof. Not sure they have as much protection by today's standards, though   Missus got hers same time, not as many miles but hers still look like new!

Altberg Hogg lite  :thumb:

Had several pairs - last pair they couldn't resole / repair (living up here means perhaps there is a service by calling at shop)

Won't offer the best crash protection....but you can walk miles and miles in them which is great if travelling. The balance works for me, enough protection and one pair of boots per trip.

I'd rather have cool feet and put overboots on in rain (or if say summer in Iceland )

Ordered a a new pair before COVID struck but sadly as cut and made at factory they've never been started. Not enough space to allow socially distanced working sadly.

"Not enough space ....."
Neither have we, but as key workers - lockdown wouldn't be survivable without a Matslan catalogue - we have to work. Same with my sister,  a teacher. All the sticky tape on her school corridors didn't work, and now she's covid+ at 57 years old.

Did you have to replace soles walking that far ..?

I bought a pair of Ashmans touring boots with my first weeks wages as an apprentice in 1979. they cost me £25 and I only took home £39...
I still have them and they still fit !!
They've had a couple of soles and re-heels, but I keep them well polished and the leather is still good.

I have a pair of full leather AXO boots with proper long length uppers (unlike the short ones so fashionable today) that are still waterproof with regular proofing, have been resoled once and I bought them 30 years ago.

I wouldn't wear any boot with laces on a bike, I have a pair of John Doe kevlar jeans I bought in 2012, they have seen a lot of use and still going strong, I use a pair of Bullit jeans now though mostly but the John Does still have plenty of life in them, amazing they still fit me despite the lockdowns!!

Still use my Forma Adventure boots I got in 2018 for my round the world trip. They will not clean up from the dirt and sand from India and Kazakhstan but I kind of like it that way. So comfortable I sold off my other boots when I got back and use them all the time, even to commute to work.
