Metzeler Tourance EXP
« on: September 20, 2014, 11:20:28 »
When I got my new Supertenere I was underwhelmed to find it came with Metzeler EXP tyre's fitted as standard. I've had bikes in the past with Tourances and didn't like them at all, finding them a bit 'numb' and slow turning. Oh, and not very grippy. So I have been pleasantly surprised with the performance of the EXP's in the first 2,000 miles. Turn in is very neutral, good grip wet and dry, decent grip on gravel and assorted road poop (not as good as an Anakee 2 though) and loads of feel. There is no sign of any squaring off from the rear yet either which is a revelation compared to my former Stelvio ! All in all I am impressed with the EXP's and thought I would share this information. Mind you I could see a set of the new Continental TKC70's in the frame come replacement time.

EXP's are a very soft compound and don't do many miles before going off
If you're not living on the edge you're just taking up space

I've read that they don't last well, which the Next is meant to correct. But if you're enjoying them, then that's good news.

Yes, I've seen that too. They seem to have gone for grip over distance which suits me just fine  :thumb:

I have a set of tourance nexts fitted to my KTM and I have be mightily impressed. They along with the bike have a great feel particularly at the front end which gives great confidence. After 300 miles I had lost both front and rear chicken strips which is something I never managed on the front tyre of my Wee. If they last well I'll be getting another set.
