A big hello from Bingham (Notts)
« on: August 12, 2022, 20:52:19 »
Just picked up my pre-reg (2021) 650XT today, first impressions are good so far as its light, agile and most things seem nice & straightforward on it.  I'm trying to run it in as per the book, up to 5k revs for 500 miles but have overshot that a couple of times already as it seems quite happy to build revs (still staying below 6000rpm however).....do a lot of owners do their own first service which seems to be little more than an oil & filter change, and if so what's the consensus on synthetic or semi-synthetic at the 500 mile point.

One other question that I have relates to Givi luggage - I already have a virtually new Givi V47 top box but I am lost as to exactly what is required to fit that to the V-strom-650, is it a silver anodised Givi Adapter plate or a plastic connecting plate.....I'm guessing whichever it is it somehow bolts to the existing rack, although past experience with Givi's bike specific brackets remind me of a reasonably complicated mecano set ......hoping the V-strom is different.

Hopefully see some East Midlander V-strom riders out in the sun over the next few days as I inch my way to 500 miles and then on to the 1000 !

I believe most owners do have the dealer 600 mile service even if they want to do it themselves from then onwards.

Ask your oil question in the general section as you will get more replies.

If any car or motorbike is covered by a manufacturers warranty which yours will be then it should be dealer scheduled services you get, by all means shop around but the stamp in the book and genuine parts used is what is more valuable to a owner when the unlikely event of warranty work is required. The first service from my dealer was reduced to £80 as I had bought from them so maybe the place you got yours from might do the same.

I have the Givi Trekker top box, and have a silver Givi plate mounted to the existing part of the bike if that helps you.

If the bike has a 3yr extended warranty instead of 2 yr (if Suzuki still do that) then they say it has to be dealer serviced for the extra third year.
