Judder...is it me
« on: May 04, 2021, 12:31:34 »
Hi everybody. I'm relative new to the return of riding a bike, took about 8 years off.... but here I am, back again. Used to ride a GSX 750 F (to which I loved0, but with age came the back issues, hence the need for an upright bike....
Last year I purchased a Strom DL 100GT '07' plate. Had a few little issues with exhaust - but all sorted now......
Now My Question.......I've noticed when riding at a low rev (even in low gear) I get a 'shudder' through the bike....this is normally corrected with pulling in clutch handle and increase throttle, is this normal or is there something I should be aware of? (never noticed this on my gsx). As you can work out I'm not an experienced rider....lol. Many thanks...

Clutch basket wear, most vstrom 1000's end up with it sooner or later. Doesn't do any harm just gets more and more annoying. Mine is the newer 14 model, it started about 20k miles and got to the point I couldn't put up with it anymore at 33k. John sorted it out, in the link above from Mr Nick. Not to difficult to do, great info on the website and lots on YouTube also. Will cost about 300 or a bit more to put right.

Hi QCC Yes it sounds like Mr Nick is right, I have a 2004 v strom and it had the same problem, apparently it does it to most vstrom1000 up to 2015 but it doesn't happen to all by any means. I actually went to see John and spent the afternoon with him,  he is a very clever man and explained that the baring face of your clutch basket is a cast surface and is not perfectly round so part of the fix he puts a brass insert in and machines a perfect  face on it he also does a few other mods to it. please don't be tempted to just put new clutch plates in as the problem will come back.
I had mine done 6 years ago and its been perfect ever since.
you will have to remove the basket and send it to him though, if you live close to Hull I would be happy to come and remove it for you (No cost)
Regards
Hessy

I can also endorse sharealike's work ...

I can't speak for others but my K6 1000, to me, seemed really bad so I stripped it down and sent the basket off for him to work his magic.

Made it a joy to ride ...
