Insurance!! 😡😡😡
« on: April 06, 2021, 19:43:53 »
Insurance!!  😡😡.  Got my renewal from Bennett’s today for my new Tiger 900 GT Pro.  Admittedly I had a fault accident 14 months ago.  First in over 40 years!  But at 61 years of age it was £479!!  WTF!!
So Comparethemarket.com was tried!  Cheapest Hastings Direct Premier ar £191, which included my extras, legal insurance, leathers & helmet cover and £300 excess instead of £550 excess with Bennett’s.  A phone call to Bennett’s reduced it by £80 but still nowhere near Hastings!  No brainier!!
Never too old to ride!

Yup, it pays to shop around. Bennett's once quoted me £1500 on my V-Strom and that's with 9+ years NCB  lol

They all try it on every year . Best to ring round a few & get cheeky when they say what's your best quote that you've  had.
Last year cheapest  quote I got was around £210 fully comp with legal cover ,brakedown uk and eu.
Rang another well-known broker told them they had to better that and they did by £40.for the same level of cover.  I was happy with that for bike worth £9,000.

If you think insurance companies try to screw you at renewal, that's nothing to what they're like when you need to make a claim.

Carole Nash tried the same with me last year on the vintage policy on the old girls as it had crept up to £250, so I ended up switching to RH Insurance for £84 on comparable terms. They seem to be a decent business to deal with & I'll give them a shout when the KTM policy comes up for renewal as they do cover modern bikes if you have classics with them already.

My Carole Nash renewal was almost double last years so I tried Bennett, who were less then last years.
I called Carole Nash to see what they could do and yes, they dropped their price but were still quite a bit more.
Bennetts it is for me this year!

I had a 6 wheel policy from Carole Nash which went up £50 to £450. After a check online for separate policies I got them down to £350. The odd thing was CN were the best separate bike quote! This covers me comp on the V Strom and my MX5 and includes recovery and EU cover.

Happens every year.  And notice how motorcycle insurance seems to have a 'renewal fee' ?  Never seen that on my car or house insurance.

Direct Line were just as bad this year when our renewal came up.  Phoned up in the morning and told can you do better, and was told no.... OK, I'll have a think and maybe phone later.  Phoned in the afternoon, different agent and this time a discount could be applied which brought it down to what we paid last year.   :icon_exclaim:

yeah they must be having a tough time of it,

mine went up by 60 quid on last year (1st year with full licence) so they quoted £750!!

I phoned them up and it dropped to £380, suggested it was because I had engine bars??

did a few comparison jobs and ended up with devitts at £206 that's a big difference and still not particularly cheap considering some of the other quotes. I now have 2 years no claims.

Realised a few days ago that I will probably exceed my estimated mileage that I gave to my current bike insurer. So I called Carole Nash today and asked the questions :
1.What would happen if I exceeded the estimate and then had an accident. They replied “We probably would NOT pay the claim”
2.Can I increase the estimated mileage “Yes”
      3.Is there a charge “Yes,£17/50p”
Another rip-off,I have been with them for the majority of the last 15  yrs. without a claim or breakdown with the car and bike.
They must have had a record profit year last year with hardly any traffic on the roads and they are still finding ways to rip off the public, and I told them so in no uncertain terms, the poor bloke on the other end of the phone was struck dumb I reckon,as he had no answer at all.I hope it was being recorded.

To stick the knife in even more, if you don't cover the stated mileage, call them them and ask for a refund ..  :stirpot:

Last year my cheapest quote out of 25 was £126 (7yrs NC) but I didn't trust the company so I went for another at £225 (full everything with NCP and £250 excess)

In the beginning of this July I got T-boned by a car (low speed thankfully so no broken bones, just bruises) and despite not actually saying much to the insurance company other than 'I just got t-boned' I seemed to have made a claim.  Seriously, I was unaware that I had made a claim until I got an email asking for my bank details...

They paid up quickly enough, but when it came round to the renewals only 3 of those 25 would now insure me, my current insurers not amongst them.

The cheapest quote - surprisingly (I thought) was £152  from MCE - but with only 2 free callouts in a year, a mickey mouse breakdown service and £750 Helmet & Leathers cover I was a bit dubious - then I saw the excess...£450! as the saying goes...WTF?

Then I saw it was repeated on every quote.  This for a no-fault claim...

Ironically the best quote is £328 from Bennets - with unlimited callouts, £1500 H & L and RAC breakdown cover - My Glee has now done 96000 miles and is still grumbling at being twatted by a car (poor dear) so I didn't want to take any chances.

anyway - I'm going to shut up before this gets moved to the moaning old git thread!

I find it an absolute piss take a renewal increases because of a "no fault" claim.

The term is pretty clear however, in insurance law it means nothing.  :angry-banghead:
