SV650 tyres

This is what I hear .... The SV 650 rim is a strange size in that the width of the rim does not match  available tyre sizes. The tyre that is fitted is slightly small for the rim. When inflated and the sidewalls are locked the effect on the tyre is to stretch it and this flattens the conact patch. This gives more grip and it lasts longer. The next size up tyre, squeezes the sidewalls give a higher  center contact patch. This makes the bike "tip in" faster for better cornering. Well that's the theory. I am wondering if the bigger tyre will give less grip  and wear more quickly.

Brockett,  are you referring to both rims ?

Where did you hear / read the rims don't match the tyres ?

Fitting wider tyres on a standard rim will pull them out of shape and make the contact area more rounded and higher , this should make the bike turn a little quicker but in my opinion is not beneficial at all
As for wear rate, no the tyre should wear the same but you'd struggle to wear the edges out as they would be pulled to far over the rim for you to reach.

I once contacted Metzler UK for advice on tyres for my XVS1300 as in the US they recommended a larger tyre as a "Stage 1 upgrade" but not in the UK. The UK rep told me they could not recommend  that in the UK due to different legislation and insurance consequences. I think you'd be better off sticking with tyre sizes recommended in the manual.

Pretty much gave up when he says he hangs half his hand off the grips so he gets more power from 2 finger braking: now, how else could you apply more effort to a lever made for 4 fingers...?

I posted the video  for comment on the views of the workshop people talking about tyres. You can skip the first 5 minutes.

And I agree that riding with two fingers on the brake lever will provide quicker braking than having to uncurl all four fingers from the throttle tube especially when wearing racing style armoured gloves. He is talking about speed reduction on the race track. He was not talking about stopping in emergency because a bus has pulled out on him.

Hi Dave keep to the same size tyres on , I have PR5s great all round tyres a 180 on rear is no use on a SV.
Spend the money on suspension setup instead.
