One thing which is good is the 650 now shows the time and the temperature at the same time (not toggled)

Lower exhaust a good idea, wonder if it will be deathly quiet like the L (and get changed to a GPR)

I'm still waiting for the 750 shaft drive version...

Where do I sign?

I've trawled the net every few years looking for a decent mid-sized shaftie. Love shaft drive bikes, had an xv750, xj650, vn1500, gsx1100g. Can't think why they stopped making usable, affordable..... um, ah, yeah, that's the one.

I like it, mostly. Should have uprated the fundamentals though, suspension especially, over stuff like traction control. The beak does look like it's been part of the design (not an afterthought). Still not sure what it contributes though.
Beauty is in the eye of...etc, I suppose. It's not perfect, but 'parts bin abortion' is a bit extreme, imo

there's stuff in todays MCN about the changes btw

Agreed, completely - or even belt drive, I just hate chains! Agree also about the traction control - why? On an MT10 etc. sure but on a 650 twin? I've certainly never felt the need for it; ABS sure. I'm a big advocate of cruise control too per my last post for mile munching; would have loved to have seen that rather than TC. Though I'm still wavering on the looks I think the 650 is better looking than a Tiger but on paper at least that's where I think I'm heading next...

Expected it to be shod with Battlax A40's as opposed to BW's!  I too hate chains - those lovely gold rims will be a nightmare to keep looking good - I'll stick to the black rims!  Traction control is good and if never used then sign of a very good rider - can be a lifesaver if unaware of oil below rear tyre on a curve or roundabout.  Yes - where is cruise control Suzuki, and where are decent adventure panniers and a 21" front. Hopefully the Bosch cornering ABS will become an aftermarket option like KTM.  At present, not enough to make me change from the 2014 1000 ABS!

The white  xt's look better, no gold but black rims on either bike. I hope the addition for traction control don't push the price  of the 650 up too much. When triumph updated the tiger 800 road and added tc and ride by wire but little else the price jumped £900! I'll not change,  well not to another 1000 anyway. And I guess I'm in a class of one here but I'd rather have the battlewings than the a40's!

Nahhh..... I like mine cos it looks like what it is, a big fat dirty motorbike.....and I can fix most things on it myself....and I have no idea what low RPM assist is or why I have never seemed to need it in all these years...and the easy start?, what's that about?, my thumb seems strong enough for the job....and ....ahh I can't be bothered to carry on with this...

 lol lol
It does seem to be getting silly with all these extra bits and bobs. Hill start for one which is on some bikes now, what's wrong with the front or rear brake.

I was thinking we don't need this low rpm assist but then I remembered that I did stall the bike the other day....hmm
 :shy:
And, no, I am not a novice, before anyone says it

Would prefer cruise control to traction control, as others have mentioned

I wonder how long it will be before our glorious leader closes this thread and refers us to another thread that is about the DL1000

Perhaps he is  :dl_ninite:

I have been waiting in the wings to see what the new 2017 model is like and I have come to the conclusion that its not bad looking as far as "beaks" go but don't think they have changed the things I would have liked , better brakes , bigger tank ect ..so I have decided to go for a new 2016 model. I went to my local dealer and got a good part ex for my old model and with the £777 off Suzuki and 3yr warranty [ if its serviced at a Suzuki dealer and you are the first owner on the log book ..so no pre regs ? ] and I think they are a hell of a good buy, well they must be cos Suzuki gb have none left & my local dealer had a struggle to get me one that another dealer had at their  shop ..so if you're thinking of grabbing one you better be  quick ....

do boy not sure whether you are talking 650 or 1000 but if 650 Orwells at Ipswich had a couple of AL6's in the showroom when I was there for a service a couple of weeks ago.

doboy, 3 yr warranty has nothing to do with servicing at a dealership or being the first registered owner. Suzuki's website even says so... basically Suzuki are offering 3yr warranty on all bikes registered in 2016 (instead of the standard 2yrs) and warranty is on the product not the owner.

https://www.Suzuki-gb.co.uk/motorcycles/motorcycles/adventure-sports-touring/vstrom/v-strom-650xtl6/

And you don't need to use a Suzuki dealer for servicing:
https://www.Suzuki-gb.co.uk/ccr/customer-services-frequently-asked-questions/#FAQ_WARRANTY

It winds me up when dealers mislead customers either deliberately or through incompetence  :violence-smack:

uk_v strom650,  go into the small print on Suzuki website regarding the 3rd yrs warranty [ next to the 3rys warranty sign in a blue box ] it definetly says the third year warranty is only available if serviced by an official uk Suzuki dealer ..I think that using none Suzuki dealers may apply to the std 2yrs warranty, but I'm only guessing ..and the £777 off says , this only applies to bikes that are "private registered" I'm guessing that means no pre  registered from the dealers. but I do hope your right as going to my local dealer instead of official Suzuki one would save me a heap of money ..cheers
