Confession
« on: May 03, 2018, 07:37:52 »
I’m here to make my confession:
I have thoroughly enjoyed 18 months on my 2014 DL-650, and it is brilliant with just me on it. I added lots of extras with guidance from kind souls on this forum.
But the 2-up performance isn’t enough for me and I decided to change... My boyhood dream was a BMW R1200RT and I did a test ride a few days ago including 2-up. I couldn’t bring myself to go for a BMW GS although I quite liked the look of the RS.
So back to my boyhood dream and my RT arrives in just over a week. If I had a garage, I would have wanted to keep the DL-650 as it is just such a lovely bike. Don’t think I will ever find the camaraderie of this group amongst BMW bikers!
So that is my confession, I hope that in time I can be forgiven :-)

All will be forgiven provided you post pictures and a review once you've got some miles on it

Ukgser is a great forum for all BMWs, not just GSs. It is worth the subscription as it gives you access to the classifieds, which is always very active with all sorts of stuff, not all bike related. Maybe see you there!

The first step on the road to redemption is to acknowledge sin.. you are on the way my son.
Peace, and a happy pillion, be with you.
(In the spirit of openness, I like the look of the RS too).

The plan is to get its 600 mile service done before Devon - I booked it in yesterday for the service even though I don’t have the bike yet. I did however see it in its as yet unassembled state as they had just taken it out of the crate.  I may need ongoing forgiveness :-) I still love the V-Strom - honest! Must book Devon now...

Seeing as it is still in a crate I feel temporary forgiveness is in order... :)

That's the plan DCZH :thumb: it's OK we'll just make sure that on the ride out's that you're not at the back, because if you break down we won't know till we get to where we're going.  lol

Always liked the RT variants, right from seeing the 2 valve air heads blatting round Europe as a kid.  They seem more "fit for purpose" than the GS stuff.

Further to the request for pictures... here is the very first one from when I sneaked a peek at it in the dealers storage shed. Hoping they put it together properly and that it doesn't breakdown Graham62! I haven't been one of the fastest riders before and I doubt I will be now. I may even be slower than previously :-) Had a lovely cross country ride out today over the Cotswolds to Gloucester Docks on my trusty V-Strom - I'm really going to miss it :-( Took the satnav cradle and wires off this evening and the reflective/fluorescent stickers off the panniers, sob... sob...
