Hi everyone. Just joined and on the look for a VStrom 1000 as my first ride.
I know some might be concerned at this being my first ride but at 6' 4" and knocking on the door of 20st there aren't a lot of bikes out there I have felt comfortable on.
Any common faults I need to look out for when looking at potential purchases

welcome:

Look out for rot & neglect. Don't discount the 650 as they punch well above their weight !

Hi flyingscot! Don't ignore the 650, I'm taller and heavier than you and my bike copes admirably! OK the thousand has more poke but the 650 is smoother and more frugal!

:)  :welcome:

There are not many faults with a decent vee 1000, just make sure its been well looked after with a decent service history and if you don't want to live with standard there are some great upgrades that can improve the bike alot, just have a brouse through the threads to get some ideas.

+1 on the wee 650.... try to find a twin spark model, above 2007 I believe , real good on petrol and faster than they look.. :thumb:

Hi FlyingScot and  :welcome:

Don't worry about your size, some members on here can make you look like a skinny dwarf.

Stick a location in your profile as it helps with rideouts, support from local members and purchases.

Thanks for the welcomes. Jumped in with both feet today and put the deposit in a Vee. Pick it up in the 28th.

+1 for the the 650. I'm 6'6" and about 18 stone. An all day riding comfortable bike with plenty poke.

I went for the 1000 just for the extra poke when 2up. Time will tell if I've made the right decision.

It won't be the wrong decision! My brother has the 1000 and I have to say that the torque can be quite addictive! I get the red mist when I ride the thing and it takes a lot of self control to behave myself. Not easy! Have fun and let us  know how you get on with it! :thumb:

No mines a black 1000. I've seen the blue one up at the City Hospital though. I know what you mean about the torque though.
