Hello
« on: June 21, 2013, 23:50:56 »
Picking up my 2005 Vee tomorrow. Trading in my Firestorm and hope the V-Twin positive experience continues.

I can't help thinking something is missing looks wise (apart from the v-strom sticker on the fairing).  Any suggestions for subtle accessories/cosmetic improvements would be welcome.

Cheers everyone thanks for the welcome.

OK, so picked it up this lunchtime, bearing in mind the rain/wet roads, it seemed pretty planted compared to my Storm.  Pulled like a V-Twin should and was relatively smooth (has Power Commander fitted).

I do however appear to have the 'clutch chudder' problem.  Only notice it at idle with the clutch out.  Pull the clutch in and it disappears.  Rev it above 3000 and again disappears.  Answer - sit at the lights with the clutch pulled in  :) .  I have read the various posts on this problem and may look to a longer term solution.

As for the Heed stuff - had been looking at that last night and may treat myself.

by the pic you posted your bike is a K2 or k3 not a 2005 model

the screen and the indicators id it as an earlier model. just so you know when ordering bits as some things changed in 2004.

as an example, my 07 plate is a K6, 2006 model first registered in June 2007.

anyways nice bike! just wait for a fine day and she's show her true colours  :auto-dirtbike:

Thanks for the heads up, still getting my head round the various 'K's !!  Its a one owner with 6600 miles and generally very tidy.

What combination of crash guard and bash plate would work best do you think?  The fairing on this model is different to the later ones I notice.  I've looked through every photo in the gallery section!!

According to Suzuki's model designation system, K2 is the 2002 model year. K3 is the 2003 model year and so on until 2010 changes to L0 with the L decade. The picture is of a 2002 or 2003 model year bike.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

How can I tell for sure which model it is? V5 supplement doesn't say. Does the full V5 document state it?

Look at the build date on the frame sticker. From September 2001 to August 2002 is probably a 2002 model year. Later would be a 2003. I'm from the USA and am surprised by the model year questions from other countries. There is no ambiguity where I am from. The model year is prominently displayed on all vehicle titles and other paperwork. There's no way anybody would not know the model year of their vehicle.

I don't know about the rest of the world but the 10th digit of the VIN number shows the year on Suzuki motorcycles in the USA. http://www.ehow.com/how_5019491_read-vi ... uzuki.html

Mine says it's a K6 on the full V5, but if you insure it the insurance database usually knows what year model it is. Mine says K6 touring- which is the correct designation for my bike model.

I told the dealership that they were selling me a k9 125 Marauder when they advertised it as a L0 (2010) as I'd been up in the cafe and insured it while waiting for the MOT to be done.

There's another example. DL650T 07(K6) is not possible. K6 is the designation for the 2006 model year, not 2007. Big changes happened between 2006 and 2007 model years. In 2007, the fuel injection system changed, ABS became available, the swingarm was lengthened by 15mm, there were two plugs per cylinder, the catalytic converter was made much larger, user adjustability of the idle speed was taken away, the wheel hubs got larger as well as the disc brake centers et al. People can't even order parts and accessories properly unless they know the model year.

I'll have a look at the frame sticker tomorrow, failing that I'll wait for the V5 before ordering anything.

I think I'll see how I go on this and upgrade to a newer model next year if all goes well.
