To cheer you up.
« on: June 09, 2019, 15:18:04 »
What a crap day. Bike wouldn’t start this morning, so I thought I’d ring the RAC (came with the insurance). Bloke asked where I was. At home I said. Sorry mate you’re not covered. If you want us out it’s £109. Reluctantly paid it.
Came out, spent ages messing about, concluded it was the starter motor. He went.
Bought one off eBay, £99.
Thought I’d have a look. The bloody connection on the clutch switch had come off. Must’ve been when I was messing about with my Barkbusters. Ffs. £200. 😡

Doh! The lesson here is to always check the simple stuff. If a normally reliable bike, car or whatever suddenly doesn't work  after you have been working on it, nine times out of ten it is because of something you've done. You know this now but thanks for having the courage to share your misfortune on here as it will serve as a reminder. Maybe you can sell the starter motor you ordered?

How tiresome. Top tip for others without home-start, tow the misbehaving velocipede the distance they stipulate and phone from there.

To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Ffs, couldn't agree more.
Easily accessible connection to starter motor.
Press starter button.
12v Y/N.
Ask for contribution to costs from RAC.

I sympathise
Many years ago I fitted a secret ignition cut-off switch under the dash of my nearly new Mk2 Escort, 2 days later I remembered
I must have done a good job as none of my mates sussed it, we still laugh about it  :)

Not very professional of them, failing basic electrical diagnostics, they're fully trained they say. Demand a refund as they failed miserably :icon_exclaim:

Yep, a proper bad-luck day there, alright Daveywww - happens to us all . Poor diagnosis from the RAC bloke, though. Try your luck first with a HELP! :dl_hyperhysteria: message on the forum next time, you never know! :thumb:

I was thinking exactly the same, pushing it down the road and then calling them up.  What is the minimum distance away from ones home whereby the RAC no longer classify it as home-start?
