Been having a mooch in the post-Christmas sales. Looking for a set of luggage.
I'm a believer in 'Buy cheap, buy twice' but I don't have the grand or the inclination to buy a set of Suzi hard boxes.
Anyone got any experience of these? I'm guessing they'll fit on a 650 without the exhaust getting in the way...
Cheers all.

They look alright. The Heat shield on the exhaust should protect them but you can buy frames for soft luggage.

Or there's...

similar but a bit bigger.

+1 for Lomo... not cause they have the Africa Twin in videos too

Nice one, fellas. I like the look of the Lomo ones. Like the matching crash bar bags too.
If I was to go for a set of these panniers, would I need a rack as well? If so, any recommendations for a newish 650?
TIA.

Dear Mr Monkey Boy,
Ref hard luggage, last year I hired a GS1200 BMW for some touring with the BM hard boxes which worked well but jeez they're wide! I still managed to wiggle through traffic okay though but just hated the aesthetic of such boxes.
I've since bought by lovely ex-demo 1000 Strom and after endless tortuous internal battles - aided by Shiraz - I concluded I wanted max cube, but with minimum width, plus looking good too. After a LOT of looking (and listening on this excellent site) I've gone for the Suzuki hard - and slim - side boxes, who's only negative I've picked up on is premature lock failure, and the message is keep all the mechanism well lubricated - done. And at the recent NEC bike show I concluded the ideal top box was the Shad mid range expandable box with back rest and matching aluminium trim as the Suzuki boxes. This has big cube and looks great too. I'm really really happy with the outcome.
That's my experience - ask me after a full season touring and I may have another story - but so far - just a perfect combination. I hope helpful.
Dave.

Hi MonkeyBoy,
I have no experience with that particular XLmoto soft luggage, however, I use an XLmoto backpack daily.
It is good for the price - £9.90 - , the materials do not feel cheap, however, one of the zippers is broken and the seam has a hole after 9 months of use, probably because my laptop is slightly bigger than the pocket.
If this can happen or not to other bags XLmoto that I do not know.
I hope that helps!
Cheers.

Hi,
I fitted a set of these SHAD Semi Rigid pannier brackets to keep my Givi soft bags off the bike and the exhaust. They are available for V Strom 650's right up to 2018 model.
Take a look here:

Sory for the late reply, Gents. I have been mostly drunk over Christmas and Hogmany.
Thank you for your words. I'll have a mooch and let you know what I plump for.
Again, thank you for your time and expertise.
Cheers.

I took delivery of the Lomo crash bar bags on Sat and they are really handy for waterproofs etc.
-
Went with the Lomo reccomend stuff. Arrived yesterday, still trying to get it attached to the bike properly.
First impressions are good. Think the 5 pieces came to about 100 quid.
I'm having to move the panniers forward so the right one is clear of the exhaust. Got the matching bar bags and a 20L tail pack. Will try and get some photos loaded on here later.
Cheers.

Not the best photo... need to figure out how to better attach the front small bags to the crash bars and all the excess straps will need to be squared away...
