"Go pro" style camera
« on: April 10, 2016, 17:38:13 »
Hello everyone, firstly sorry if this topic has been really overdone.

A bit annoyed been searching high and low as I've got a Sony hdr-15 little camera but cannot find the bloody thing anywhere (can find all the accessories etc). Cheapest I can see on eBay is £100. I don't really want to spend that again, hopefully mine will show up.

Anyway for the time being I was looking at alternatives. I see you can get a go pro style knock off one for about £40. Are these any good or not worth wasting my money on them. Will be used on the bike and a bit off downhill mountain biking.

Thanks in advance

Wayne

I've been looking as well lately and I must say some of them are actually really good ... from my research on the Web: git up 2 is my favourite cause it has USB plug for microfon and image stabilisation. .. another one that is cheaper but not an input for mic is sj4000
If you use it for mountain biking then image stabilisation is a must in my eyes. .. Check it out on YouTube.. hope that helps a bit... cheers????

I have the sj4000, anything under £50 is most likely a fake,
1st one I bought was a fake, didn't work just a black screen
Got a full refund from fleebay.
Found genuine one on Amazon from mini kitty.
Around £50. Whilst looking I discovered that
There are more fakes than genuine out there.

Veeferme is correct, lots of fakes around! Not guaranteed but I would say Amazon better than e-bay to get a genuine one.

Another one for the SJ4000, great for the price. I have mine mounted behind the screen on ram mount and Ravetech dash mount.
Run a permanent power by cutting a small hole in the side of the waterproof case big enough for the power wire so it comes on automatically with ignition.
You get what you pay for but I can't complain about the quality of this cam for the money, plus you get a load of accessories with it for differnt mounting options.

Alibx11,  I was thinking of doing this do you have any problems with vibration ,And do you run it with the battery out.

Yes mate it does vibrate a bit but got around it by placing a couple of small rubber dampers ( stick on rubber feet) under the ram arm so that it leans on the dash to cure it. Unfortunately there is a bit of flex in the dash mount with the weight of the camera.
I always prefer mounting the camera on the bike as the thoughts of the added wind noise never mind the drag of it being attached to the helmet doesn't appeal to me. Besides the fact that if you come off the first thing to hit the ground is usually your helmet so risk further injury and damage to the cam.
No I always run it with the battery in, to be honest I've never thought of trying to run it without the battery. Will try it later and see if it works, ... will let you know.

Where does your power cable exit the body work?

I've it connected to the accessory plug on the right side fairing and coming through one of the spare mounting holes that is used for moving the screen higher or lower, slips nicely through the grommet and runs neatly up behind the dash bracket.

Here's an image of the wiring through the bodywork mate... Once the screens on you don't notice it.
