Finally got around to fitting my Bigpie fuse box, rear lights on top box now working in time for winter. Also fitted some grip puppies, and changed the screen for a third time. I have just got to decide on a pair of forward running lights and a 12v outlet to fit , if anyone has some recommendations please let me know .

Bit of a chilly ride out on greasy roads to York Powder Coating (Elvington) with my 8 x Aluminium Cosmo pannier spacers.
When they arrived most of the black paint on 'em was in the packet. Cleaned the rest off with fingernails and a dish scrubber. They were carrying out huge sets of staircases to load onto a truck, so I hope my little spacers don't get lost in their huge 180C oven.
Settled on matt black to match the frame & panniers rather than being clever and using blue.

Went for a nice but chilly ride around the Hope Valley in the Peak District. Thanks to my cheap Chinese heated waistcoat and Oxford heated grips I was nice and toasty all day. Will be posting the video tomorrow. Comments in pencil on the back of a £5 note please.

Spacers back from the powder coaters so mounted my Cosmo pannier rails. In the absence of instructions - for each rail - the two shorter bolts are for the forward position, the two longer are for the rearward. There were also two spare bolts and washers. No idea why ...

Changed the oil & filter, washed it, polished it, waxed it & gave it a coating of ACF50.
All ready to get dirty again!!  :)

Just over a hundred miles around Derbyshire and the Peaks, had lunch at Weatherspoons in Buxton and back to Monyash for a cuppa on the way home to Ilson.Gorgeous day, just a bit cold.Looks like the last day out this year.Had to give it a quick wash to get the Via Gellia crud off it.

Fitted some extensions to the handguards. Even with heated grips my thumbs get cold and thought this might be an easy solution to the problem. This was not my idea, initially Ianmc of this parish showed me his mod a few years back & gave me some plastic sheet that he used but I wasn't successful in my initial attempts.
A few weeks ago someone on the Suzuki Vstrom Owners UK FB site posted this idea.....so I stole it!!  :)
I fitted the lower ones last week & the upper ones this morning. They will remain on for the winter & removed as soon as the temperature rises again.
The plastic they are made of is quite hard but heat (I used a hot air gun but I think a hair dryer would be OK) will soften them enough to bend into any shape & also makes them easier to cut. When they go cold they go hard again.
Not sure if they will be a success but hope to try them in the next few days.

Treated myself to some early Christmas presents thanks to some great savings at the moment. Got the Givi pannier rack PL532, no panniers yet as I’m undecided on what I need/like so will sort at Easter.

One change was the removal of my custom rack for a new carrying solution. I often commute during the week and got fed up with strapping my SW-Motech bag in place to safely transport my laptop. So I got a Pelican knock off waterproof case from CPC for £38 delivered that my laptop and carrying bag fit into perfectly! I then added a Givi S150 nylons rack to the top so I can still carry items if needed… with a pair of panniers I should be set for touring this summer if Covid allows  :)

PM me your address and I’ll post it. No charge as it weighs so little anyway.

Finally received some replacement shafts from MSP… good service just a bit slow this time of year, lol. All good though, my gear lever  and rear brake pedal now run true as do the foot pegs which were wobbling all over the place. I just need to strip down the rear suspension links, grease and I will finally be done  :)

Not so quick my Cumbrian friend, that circlip needs rotating 180 degrees as well. :violence-smack:

Fair point, took the photo and went back in the house as it’s bloody freezing. I’ve put the heater on now, will go tidy up later after a brew  :icon_wink:

90(ish) miles today to test the new mod to the handguards. 6/7* here today but had summer gloves on (took my winter ones just in case though! :)) & only put the heated grips on for the last 20 minutes on the way home. Seems to work OK.
Bike needs another wash now.....

I did an oil and filter change today. It always takes longer to clear up afterwards than it takes to change the oil and that's without spilling oil. A very easy and rewarding job.

I really need to buy a proper bike lift/stand. However, a car jack and some wood is effective and cheap so it will do for now. Going to remove the centre stand and lower suspension links to check over and re-grease, love the holidays for some garage time while the kids are entertained  :icon_wink:

Hello Tim. Thank you for gifting me the hugger off your bike. It's just arrived at my door and will be fitted within the hour (after a cup of tea). Instructions, bolts and postage paid. You are a kind man and thank you again.

Merry Christmas to you and all you love. James.  :xmas-smile:
