Euro emissions and French LEZ?? 2014 1000
« on: April 11, 2024, 14:29:35 »
So.. looks like I need to get a sticker for the bike to travel in France.  The LEZ seem to have spread like a contagion in the last 4 years..

Doesn't look like I can avoid the "zones" on the way down to Spain and back..

What euro does the 2014 Strom 1000 meet?

Anyone with top tips ??

Personally, it looks like an easy way to get a database of foreign drivers in case they need to send out a speeding ticket etc.. as under the Brexit rules, they cannot request owner details  (prob the only good thing that has come of Brexit) to pass on fines...

The official site will tell you what class your vehicle falls under;
https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/certificat/demande/ext/vehicules
I would also expect the Euro Class to be on your V5C given the age of your bike.

Don't worry though, even my 2007 is level 2 and no city has imposed bans on level 2 as yet. Paris is the most restrictive, naturally because the air is like tar in most capitals these days, and even they have pushed the ban on level 3 back to 2025 as air quality has improved.
You do still need the sticker though of course. Most of the cities have at least had the good sense to not include outer ring roads/autoroutes in the LEZ areas so you should be OK. Still worth getting the vignette though given how cheap they are.

I have no intention of entering the cities.. mainly country routes as I head down.. I have 2 -3 days to get to the the Spanish border..
(My mate is cycling down from Swansea, 2 weeks or so ahead of me..)

Take the ferry to Spain, save tyre wear fuel and LEZ.

I could.. but its over 600 quid return last time I looked.. and the ride down is part of the journey.. I really don't fancy sitting on a boat for 32 hours..

I just checked... £855 return..(Portsmouth /Santander ) or (Portsmouth/Bilbao) £701.. that's just mental..

OK..may be useful to someone else..
By default my V stromnit is Euro 3 (post 2006/pre 2017)
Euro 3 is not recorded on the V5.. (mine at least)
French sticker should be a yellow class 2. (French classification table allocates class on age of bike)

French site isn't working at mo.....

Probably be cheaper and a lot less stress to just fly to Spain and rent a bike for a week at those ferry prices.

The flip side of this is, of course, is that foreign-registered vehicles can then break UK traffic rules without any consequences in the form of fines landing on their door mats later on....
Personally, I'd rather people face consequences for traffic violations whether they are home or away, local or visitor.

They were getting away with it before Brexit..  I know this because I have lived and worked in several Euro countries for several years before Brexit... Just the UK didn't/doesn't have any extra mechanisms to make accountability..

Fly and hire is as expensive as the Spanish ferry etc.. (flights ain't cheap any more)   the drive down is part of the trip.. I can get a sensible price cross channel ferry.. the fuel etc is just consumables.  Like food and drink, accommodation... all part of the experience..
Looking forward to fresh Croissants and baguettes..  1664... Struggling with my Franglais..  ha ha ha..

to pass on fines...

Which unless you committed some massive amount of traffic infringements, they aren't going to be able to sweet talk the govt into doing an exchange... I understood France can and does get foreigners to pay at the time if you're stopped.

As far as I know, there is no mechanism in law here to legally enforce tickets from abroad. Whilst if you don't pay them it might make it difficult if you went back to the country, they have about as much enforceability as the old private parking tickets before PoFA came in... I.e. "pretty please will you pay? We will say all this scary stuff but we know we can't legally do anything"
