My Son has abandoned a Honda XL125V in my garage with a cheery "you can sell it if you want".
It's in the bloody way but I need to clean it up a bit first.
What is the best method of removing the paint from a rather scabby water pump housing and clutch side engine case.
Is there anything better than nitromors that is still safe to use on ally cases?
Does anyone have experience removing the clutch case on this bike?  All bolts are removed and love taps with a rubber mallet have no effect.
I think the case will have to come off to allow a reasonable paint job.
The picture is after a scrape with and old screwdriver and few minutes with a Dremel and mini wire bush

I found a couple of (I don't know what they're called)  nibs* that can be tapped and that loosened the cover so I have now removed it. I still need your painting advice. What is the best stripper? and maybe do I have to remove all the paint or can I paint over the top of the old paint that is in good condition?

It looks like the impeller is off the water pipe is loose, IF (?) all the bolts are out then a tap should free it. Maybe a wooden mallet on a robust part of the housing.

I would think sand blasting would be the easiest way to remove all of the paint. I was lucky enough to work at an airport where there was an engineering workshop with a sand blaster (sand was not used but some kind of plastic beads) and for a small gift, a cake a couple of beers or whatever I could use the blaster. I once cleaned a couple of aircraft wheels as payment. It is the most affective way to remove paint and it will get to otherwise difficult places but you will probably have to pay a small sum. Good luck.   :thumb:

Wonder if the bungalow dwellers get fed up with tourists trundling down their lane to grab a piccie. That's a beautiful bridge, with the wider arch for the river.

Today, I fitted the correct battery to the tigger and it fired right up, very happy. I also realised that I have now had this bike longer than any other, beating my previous record of 3 years & 3 months ownership of my former Moto Guzzi Stelvio! I guess it must be a keeper ?

I was talking to my mate last night on the phone about the amount of time I've had the tiger. He's casually mentioned that he's had his Kawasaki H1 Mach 111 for 24 years now. He has another 11 Kawasaki triples including 2 x H2's and a very rare 1969 250 (apparently). Another feller we know still has his Yamaha XT500 which he bought new in 1977...

Wow !!!!
You mate is a lucky man 😃 love the Kawasaki triples 👍 I did have a KH 250 a good few years ago and wished I never sold it 🤔

The XT500 is a nice bike and worth good money now.

On the XJ600 - Installed a Garmin Sat Nav mount. I tried to install the centre stand spring but after an hour of faffing I gave it up for another rethink. In the past I have legthened springs by inserting washers between the layers but this item is short, stubby and does not bend no matter what I try.
On the Honda XL125 still applying engine paint on the clutch cover and water pump housing. Had a half hearted go at removing the generator cover but as it won't budge I'll not force the issue just yet. But it has been slap-on painted in the past and it looks dreadful.
I put both V7s on charge .

Very envious, I had a go on one in period and an SR 500. Lovely. A mint one will be worth a lot now.

Brockett,
My favourite way of dealing with such springs is to get some 10 amp wire or really strong string round the spring tag then form a loop the right length so a piece of 2 by 1 soft wood can be fitted in the other end as a lever against something on the bike, when fitted cut the wire and pull out.

Nigel. good idea but I think it has rusted together as I cannot get the ends to move. On end in the vice and a metal bar on the other and so far; zilch.
