Top box question
« on: August 29, 2016, 12:17:03 »
I'm on the look out for a top box for the wife's Wee. I've seen a few givi/kappa ones that come with the universal mount. How sturdy/easy to fit are thes on the original figment rear flat rack.

I have a '13 glee, I had a givi monokey box from my previous bike. Givi sell a bike specific mounting plate (I believe it was about £36) which clamps with bolts to the Suzuki rack. Came with instructions, doddle to fit. Topbox very useful.

For Monokey boxes, you'll need a SR3101 kit, which comes with a metal adapter plate which you'll need to fit first. There's also an aluminium plate SRA3101 which is a more expensive option. For Monolock boxes you'll need a SR3101M plate which will then take the universal Monolock mounting plate supplied with the box. I use a Kappa 36l Monokey box - similar to the Givi Trekker but a bit cheaper. Monokey boxes are a bit sturdier than the cheaper Monolock range. Both are easy to fit on the V Strom rack (mine's a '15 plate).

Thanks for the replies, I think the one I need is the Monolock E528 kit for 650's upto 11 plate after they are the SR kits.
I was going to go for the Monokey ones as they come with the universal plate but after some research they seem not to fit the bill (mainly on quality)
There is about a 3 week wait for them as the Givi factory closes for August apparently.

Monolocks come with universal plate, monokeys don't. Monokeys are generally a bit stronger and have higher weight ratings for luggage. Its' a pity Givi didn't name them more clearly to distinguish them properly - confusion is widespread. Personally, I'd go for the Monokey range if you want to carry a reasonable amount of kit. The E528 is a monokey plate.
