Anakee 2 or 3?
« on: February 24, 2015, 20:49:05 »
Hi all.

My Battlax rear tyre needs changing,  so I'm thinking of going over to the Ana?ees that everyone here seems to love. Especially as I'd like to have a go at riding off road this summer - nothing too wild,  just dirt tracks on Dartmoor etc.

So ... Anakee 2s or 3s? I'd really like to get a few more miles out of a set if possible (7000 on the Battlax ), but also need good grip in the wet during the winter months.

So I'm thinking the Anakee 2s (also quite a bit cheaper than the 3s ). A good choice?

I liked the 2s so much I really wish they did an 18" rear so I could still use them on Katie.

I had put 5k on mine before I sold the Glee & there was easily twice that left by the look of them. Happy on farm tracks & gravel roads too.

Never had any cause to doubt the grip they gave wet or dry either.
Seems pearl asbo orange is faster after all....

I am on 3's, love em. I can wind the throttle on in with confidence and apply firm braking when needed.

I have done 9000 on them so far riding in all weathers including the lovely slippery roads we get in winter.

A mate has had 2's and now on 3's and preferred the 2's for rideability and he's a bloke that likes to wind te throttle a bit.
I've had a few sets of 2's but switched to heidenau k60's and now mitas e07. I loved the anakee 2's but the heidenau's were more suited to the crap roads I like to ride.
The analee 3's are more or less a road tyre. So if that's the sort of thing you want save yourself a few quid and buy the last generation Pilot Road.
Again I had Pilot Road 1's on the strom and the thing handled loverly.

I used both, I found the Anakee 3 to be a slightly better road tyre than the Anakee 2, but proper road tyres like the Pilot Road 3 and 4, and Roadsmart 2 to be better still.

If you only ride roads then the proper road tyres will perform best. If you want a more rugged look but still decent road performance the Anakee 2 is fine. If you ride off road then you need advice from someone other than me.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

Thanks for all the advice folks. Went for the 3s in the end for no other reason than there's not a lot between them in terms of people's opinions,  and ProTyre had a good deal on!

Rode up to visit my Dad in Hampshire yesterday to scrub them in well - 230 mile round trip.

Very happy with them - a big improvement on the Bridgestones which just didn't give me confidence on a lean - felt very jittery. Predictably a bit more noisy than a "proper" road tyre,  but not unpleasant - just a bit of a hum due to the more marked tread. But not a hint of jitteryness - very planted and good fun throwing it round the corners on the odd twisty bit of the A303.

Now to get the flipping clutch sorted!
