Title: Buying tyres from Oponeo
Post by: Barbel Mick on May 31, 2018, 14:11:09
Hi all, need a new set of tyres before our trip to France, have called into the few places in Derby that do motorcycle tyres (Anakee 3's) for a price and came out a little pale!!!
Been having a look on line and found Oponeo to be cheapest (£178 pr.) at the moment and my local garage will fit them for £20 a wheel (ride in/out) saving me over £30 on the best quote!!
I've searched on here & see that a lot of members have used Oponeo in the past but I'm wondering how good they are? Mainly on the age of the tyre, they promise younger than 36 months on there FAQ's, have you found this to be the case? Any opinions happily received.  :thumb:

I never bothered checking how old the tyres were that they supplied to me. Maybe that is something I need to consider next time, as I will need a new rear tyre later this year. I was pleased with their service, so will use them again.

If it's a recently introduced tyre like the Anakee 3 then they're unlikely to have them so old you wouldn't want them.
If you're looking for a tyre in a size that's fitted to nothing popular, from a brand that nobody wants, then you might want to watch, but popular tyre in common as muck size then you're on pretty safe ground.

I've used them many times. Only issue I ever had was my tyres had a trip back to germany when the DHL in Swansea (local depot) decided to return to sender. I did get them without any intervention from myself about 4 days late.
I've used them since and will be using them again soon for a new rear Mitas for the Varadero and an Avon for the XJ600n.
As long as you have a local place to fit them you're sorted.

I've ordered from Openeo over the past few year & had no issues at all. The last 3 sets of tyres were Anakee 2's & the last I put on we're date FEb 2017

Oponeo is OK as is "Tyre tec" also "My Tyres" also "Wheelhouse tyres" (Bike specific) I fit and balance my own and use them all for the best deals!

Looks like I'll be using them sooner than expected. I was readying the bike for a ride out earlier and found a flat rear tyre and a nail stuck in it. Time to thrash the bank account...

...aaaand I went with Tyre Tec. Thanks for the heads up Border Riever, they were miles cheaper. £124.50 for a Michelin Road5 (non-trail) including carriage. Fingers crossed for a quick delivery.

I hate to correct you Tall but the Nail is most certainly not stuck in your tyre, it's stuck in my garage.

Just sayin' :)

Didn't check them out, :groan: but had mine fitted from Oponeo today and satisfied with the deal.  :)
Will make a note of the other suppliers for next time.
Thanks for all the advice gents....  :thumb:
