Quick release mounts for Monokey panniers
« on: October 19, 2014, 22:08:39 »
Hi folks

Do Givi (or anyone else) do quick release pannier racks for the Monokey system?

Givi and SW-Motech both do.

GIVI PLR3101
SW-MOTECH Quick-Lock Sidecarrier Suzuki DL650 V-Strom, '12-'14 EVO
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Google don't make bike luggage (yet ). I went straight to Givi's website and found the plr 3101.  Doddle to fit, nearly invisible when racks are off. Thing is, I very rarely take them off. If I was doing it again I think I might save the price difference and fit the fixed pl3101.

My SW-Motech mounts are almost always off. Of course the arthritis getting in the way of trips lasting more than a couple of hours has a large influence on that.

Oh, the cases come off if not being used. I found that taking the rails off just meant finding  somewhere to store them. Turns out they take up less space on the bike than on a wall or shelf.

My frames are about to go back on the bike for that very reason due to limited storage space in the shed.

I store mine with the panniers, the long, awkward crossmember just sits down the back of the boxes, takes up no extra room really.

I like the look of the bike without the rails on so I'll get quick release rails again.
