Hello, what are people's opinions of this, could the scratch be repaired?

If so, what methods would people employ?

Oh dear
How did that happen , it doesn't look too bad though,
All bikes carry scratches, that's part and parcel of biking.
So sorry I can't help
I stand tall,  but I am short
I shout loud, but I am quiet
I ride a Dl 1000 and Proud.

Yes it could but it'd be a lot of work, made lots easier if you can remove the end cap, and maybe have a bench polisher but that isn't needed.
Don't be tempted to just "give it a rub" with some cutting compound or you'll just a get a shiny patch that will highlight it further. It you start to cut/polish it you'll likely have to all the visible areas so it blends in.

The normal way of dealing with that would be to cut back with sandpaper (then wet & dry) until the scratch has gone and then resurface to the desired finish.
I'd just learn to live with it, maybe keep an eye on fleabay for a replacement.

It's part of a project bike I have my eye on, I've not bought it yet, just one of the many jobs I'm trying to gauge before/if I take it on.

Thanks so far.
