What have you done with your bike today?
« on: March 07, 2016, 11:59:09 »
I don't see why Traitors Corner shouldn't have their own thread  :smirk:

I'll start. I fitted a Sat Nav mount to the FJR1300, the replacement Top Nut comes from Telferizer

I did have to buy a 36mm Socket  :fix:

OK OK.

Haven't really done anything, but I ordered SW Motech pannier rails for the GSX14 and a new topbox for my bike as the mrs borrowed my Givi V47 and scratched it.
I have the forum logo and 'Honda' on the top cover so I'll be swapping the covers and she can have the scratched box.  :icon_batterup:

Fitted a K&N air filter.

Seeing as the weather is so nice we've headed off to West Wales.

Washed the XT1200 and my son's DL650.

The XT1200 hasn't been used in 4 months, as I've had a winter off seeing as I was working somewhere I could commute by train for a change. Took about a minute of turning over to get it started. Tyres were a couple of pounds light on pressure. Battery was fine. Going to start using it again next month when I change jobs.

The DL650 hasn't been used in around 16 months. Changed the battery as it had died when it was layed up. Tyres were a couple of pounds light on pressure. Started straight away on thumbing the starter. Son is going to start using it again for his new job from tomorrow after it is MOT'ed.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

Emptied the top box. The combination of road salt, sheep cack, horse cack and cow cack is being left to fester for now. The combination of Italian engineering thoroughness and Suzuki's electrical waterproofing prowess should be fine.

Sat on it and made 'vroom vroom' noises.

This is how rumours start and threads go off track. Reminds me, the wife did ask me to look at the washing machine though. :eusa-doh:

Me and Cheryl went for a bimble but it was foggy until the queues for car boot sales and B&Q started getting annoying. I've a day off in the week, so call it a test run.

Watching the Jocks win the 6 Nations for England and drinking Landlord now.

have you been out for a spin yet Snow?

During our ride today I had the rear tyre step out on me 3 times.
One accelerating from a roundabout up a dual carriageway, one coming out of a garage forecourt and one at 60mph doing an overtake. The latter one caused poo to come out.

And to add insult to injury I've been chasing the mrs all around West Wales... this having a slower bike than her in not funny anymore. I'm buying a ZZR1400.

The cause of the slides were discovered to be my scotoiler threw a paddy and was gushing oil all over the place.
The Mrs could see oil fling come off the rear sprocket after we'd stop at lights or waiting to pull out for more than 20 seconds. Turned it right down and I was then OK after a few miles. I haven't adjusted it since getting the bike, just filled it up. Further investigations are needed tomorrow.

On the up side, I now have the worlds best oiled chain... and rear tyre.

Oh yeah, my old air filter was well and truly past it's best. Suzuki say the Strom's filter should be changed every 11k miles... that was bo***cks... but Mr Honda says replace after 11k not bo***cks. At 20k the thing was black... really black. Clogged I think the term is, but I won't be seeing the K&N one for a year now, we'll see how that pans out.

Oh and if anyone moans about how difficult it is to take the Strom's tank off... come round an have a go of my Varadero... you need 3 pairs of hands all 9ft apart and tiny little hands with vice like grip. 2 fuel taps, who thought that one up. My garage still smells of unleaded.

Well yesterday. I had to shave the fur off the aluminum bits after leaving it for a week with a film of road salt.

Cleaned the chain with my Aldi special offer WD40 cleaner  (thanks Andyonbass) works a treat. Persuaded the gear position indicator to tell the truth and removed the hideous wiring for the heated seat cover. Next job is to repair the belly pan that was bust in two by an errant rock last weekend...

Fitted a new DID X ring Gold chain and sprocket, rear pads and clean the caliper pistons on the Varadero.
Also sorted my dodgy wiring of the mrs heated grips.

Then took the Varadero for an MOT. Passed though he did say the Dominator exhausts were loud... "A bit load, but nice sound"

Took the Tracer for it's first run out since November. 110 miles round the block with a stopover for lunch in Harleston. Hot grips on 50% for the home run. Light, flickable and fast and a bit of a change from the Harley.
Look at the clock and the calendar.
It'll never be now again.
So just get out and do it.
As fast as you possibly can.

Still struggling on with my top on rebuild on the xt225. I just cannot extract a seized bolt from the crank case and 2 in the head. Might have to go to an expert.

Fitted a Garmin Zumo Sat Nav from Aldi  (great deal at 199) and a rad guard. Bring on the touring.

I received the V5Cs for the last 3 of my bikes so booked the Bandit in for an MOT on 4th. My paperwork drawer looks like it belongs to a dealer now...

I filled the TS gearbox up with specific gearbox only oil from Motul ready for the summer season heading our way...  :sunny: I also replaced the fuel hose as it had already started to perish after only 2 & a bit years - it was so bad it snapped when I bent it!!
Seems pearl asbo orange is faster after all....
