Wind Deflectors
« on: October 13, 2015, 18:34:46 »
After seeing at spanish forum one bike with wind flaps installed and reading that the owner was more then happy, I decided to give it a go:

Holes position:

Installed:

They are for BMW GS1200Adventure, sold on eBay or BMW dealer in clear or tinted (I've chosen tinted). They come with all hardware needed. I copied holes position from spanish forum. The spanish bloke who installed them swore the wind hitting your body and the noise were dramatically reduced. I'll see tomorrow on my way to work.

Bosnjo where did you get the mirrors and how much where they. Do they make any difference to noise and turbulence?

I transfered them from my Glee before I sold it. On the Glee they made big difference in buffeting. When I got Vee2 I installed them straight away so can't say much about difference between them and stock ones but as the stock ones are the same on VStrom's from the beginning, I guess these ones are better. Note that they are on risers.
Later I got two more extra pairs of mirrors as they are cheap and I feel better having backup at home.

Mirrors:

Risers:

I love those mirrors. They look very modern, almost no vibrations and they give excellent view coverage.

I took a bit longer ride today and can say this:
- Wind coming into helmet from bellow is gone
- Wind hitting my waist and chest is gone
- No buffeting, just like before installing deflectors, as I have Givi Airflow
- Up to 80km/h, helmet is completely silent, then the noise begins. My helmet is noisy, AGV Compact Course, that's why I ride with bluetooth earpieces, they work as earplugs and phone bluetooth in the same time.
So, it was not worthless upgrade. I like my bike better without deflectors but they do help in controlling the wind.
