Over the moon and a recommendation
« on: May 23, 2018, 13:12:18 »
A year ago this week I had a new knee and have been off the Strom since, as am unable to bend my knee enough to get my foot under the gear selector.

So I bought a seat from a breakers for £50 and took a bread-knife to it, with a view to taking some of the pillion area down to the rider level, so I can move my arse back, thereby requiring less bend from the knee to get on the pegs etc.

I then took the butchered seat to JPupholstery in Guildford (fairly local to me) having been pointed in their direction by a moto-x mate who uses them a lot !

Jane (of JP) took 5 days to sort out my hackings, add some addition padding, where I had over-hacked and created a cover that matches (actually much better than) the original. ALL for close to £60.... Incredible value and service. can't recommend Jane enough.....

Just fitted the seat to my bike and I can (reasonably) comfortably get my foot under.....

Having spent 12 months fearing a future with a scooter, today is huge..... MOT, tax and Ins next week, then back to 'normal'.....

I have some form of technical dyslexia, so will whatsap pic to my son, who can email it back from uni in an email. Thereafter I think I can sort it. Just had its first wash in a year. Flies on the screen (many) from last June had turned to dust, so a very easy clean. Top tip there for getting flies off your bike... Leave it for a year.

New seat in other pic. Took it back around 2 inches/as far as I could. Not interested in pillions. Recommend it if you just want to move around in the seat on a long run....

Most excellent. :thumb:
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Looks factory. I've accidentally taken too much foam off my KTM seat to make it a little lower. It's now like a church pew but it wasn't that comfortable before. I might have to send it somewhere to be made a little softer without gaining too much height.

Better than factory.. I had over-hacked my seat, but jane sorted it and (as you can see) covered it beautifully. Appreciate Rotherham isn't local to Guildford, but JPupholstery were cheap as chips....
I had spoken before with people in Wiltshire and near Brighton beforehand. Both gave far bigger estimates..

I've been thinking about paying Tony Archer a visit with mine, especially after a 6hr day in the saddle on Wednesday. These pics are making me more inclined to go sooner than later...

Looks a good job that. Looking at the pics I thought it was a Tony Archer!

My XT saddle needs raising up a bit, so will be calling over to see Mr Archer in the near future.

Tony is submerged with work at the moment, was looking and sounding quite stressed last week. He's usually unflappable. You may have to join a longish queue.

Hi,

Great job on the seat. I am just up the road in Farnborough, let me know if you are interested in a ride sometime.

I can recommend Tony Archer .... I had him redesign mine a few years ago ... He flattened the seat and moved it back .... I can sit for hours on her now as Saturday proved with No numb bum.

I will need to reupholster it though as my leathers have slowly worn away near were my right knee is.
