Are you seeing a check engine symbol or an FI light/symbol? What model year or build month/year, not registration year, is the bike?
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 (K2-L2) DL1000s. Veek=2014+ (L4+) DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 (K4-L1) DL650s. Glee = 2012+ (L2+) DL650s

Does your XT have tyre pressure sensors or traction control .?  It's possible either the rear abs ring might have been damaged/distorted or the pressure sensors (if you have them) may have also been damaged.
Other than that you can use the diagnostic plug to bring a fault code up which will give you the answer.

It can only be the ABS\ Tracation control, so maybe pull the ABS fuse, turn the bike on, then off, then put the fuse back in and see if it resets. Failing that you'll need to get the bike into 'Dealer Mode' to read the actual error code.
In my defence, she did leave me unsupervised.
