Best way to wire in extra lights...
« on: October 15, 2015, 14:01:01 »
Hello- I've just ordered these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2PCS-125W-Motorcycle-Motorbike-CREE-U5-LED-Driving-Head-Spot-Light-Headlight-UK-/181895352831?hash=item2a59ced1ff and wondered the best way of wiring them in..

Am I best to get a wiring harness ...like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Complete-Fog-Spot-Light-Wiring-Loom-Harness-Switch-Kit-for-Suzuki-Motorcycles-/400877875897?hash=item5d562ef2b9  or is there a better way?

I'm going to be using one of bigpie's aux fuse boxes for these (plus the Dr Bike handguards I've ordered at the same time too...

Cheers
Ben

No need to get the harness, I would just get a switch to wire inline to the aux fuse box so you can change modes more easily or have them off if you prefer.

I think with those, you can just wire to the fusebox if you want them in the first mode all the time as when the bike is switched on they'll go to the first mode each time.

I'm tempted to get a set my self to play with and see if they're easy to disable the other modes.

I'll hold fire buying anything else till the fuse box comes then and see what's what. I have no interest in the flashing so first mode is fine by me. Worst case I get an inline switch if needed.

Bigpie- let me know how much I owe you and where to paypal it to and I can fix that up when you're good to go.

You can disable the flashing and low beam as follows:

The lamps came today and they seem decent however...

The base doesn't swivel, and I can't see a way to make it move, so I need to either
(a) find a place on the engine bars which suits the aim of the lamp (I think this is do-able fron m a quick trial fit yof them) or
(b) make something up which will give some movement.

Anybody else wired in extra lamps- where and how did you fit them?

I'm quite keen to fit a switch to them so I can choose when they are on/off. Can anybody post a link to a switch I can buy which would do this?

Cheers
Ben

I can't see much difference between this and the similar one for about £18

Sounds good- I'll give it a go. Plan to fit them one night in the week or next weekend.

I've just ordered some of the Chinese U5 cree for 13 quid from bang good. So I'll see how they go, I'm hoping to remove the useless modes (especially strobe) from them and just have on and off.

How'd you get on with the GPI Graham?

The fusebox arrived the other day - I'm going to try to fit it one night this week. I do need to solder an extra length to the switch cable - it's only about a foot long!

I'll let you know when I've done it.

I've ordered a switch to go with my cheap Chinese lights, I might not bother with it and just have them on all the time.

Let me know how you get on Graham.

Apologies for the basic nature of this question....

Was tinkering around last night getting ready to fit my lamps and grips...

I need to get the wires from the 2 lamps and the switch into the fuse box. What I'm thinking of doing is soldering the  3 wires (1 from each of the lamps and 1 from the switch) to another single length  and then taking the other end of this single length to the fuse box with one of the connectors that came with the fusebox.

Does this sound sensible or is there a better way?

Not sure I follow your description, but what I would do is, negatives (join together and solder a single longer wire if needed) from the lamps to the black wire on the fusebox, red wire from the fusebox to one side the switch and then join the positive from the lamps to the other side of the switch.
