The reason the leak stops when cold is because hot water causes pressure.
It's probably corrosion behind the cover , they are known for it .

With a coolant leak at a hose, tightening the clamp is usually all that is needed and that's not an uncommon situation. There are better style hose clamps for the larger hoses too so replacing the clamp with one that is a true circle inside may be needed. In some cases though, one of the #9 O-rings hardens and flattens so needs to be replaced.

Here are some pics of better hose clamps.

Sorry , I must have had a blonde moment ..
I was talking about the water pump cover and not the thermostat housing .
It's more than likely a loose hose clip as GW has already pointed out.
Should have read your post properly ...  :angry-banghead:

Dealer (CMC Newport) called me yesterday just before they closed and said they couldn't find a leak on the bike, but to be sure they would prefer to let the bike stand overnight and then check for leaks. But there were no mechanics in on Sunday, and they said that they couldn't get the bike back to me until Thursday, I didn't want to wait until then so I said that I would get the train from Gloucester to Newport and collect the bike.  When I arrived they brought the bike out, I checked the thermostat housing and it was leaking slightly   :dl_smiley_banghead:
So the bike will be staying at the dealer now. Hopefully now they can see exactly where the leak is they will be able to sort it.
In the meantime they gave be a brand new Yamaha MT09 Tracer demonstrator to ride back to Gloucester, this is a very naughty motorcycle, and brings out the hooligan in me!  :smirk:

Finally picked up the Vee from CMC Newport yesterday. No misfire, stalling, and no leaks. After riding the "lively" Yamaha MT09 Tracer, I expected the Vee to feel like riding a Harley, not so the Vee felt a much more relaxed, and comfortable. I decided not to ride straight home, and went from Newport down the M4, off a junction 32, and get on the A470 towards Merthyr Tydfil, then Brecon. That's when the heavens opened, and didn't stop until Brecon. The Vee felt very planted, and stable at high speed and took the wind and rain in it's stride. I then rode from Brecon to Abergavenny on the A40, and stopped for a coffee at the bikers café there. Then it was back to Gloucester on the A40. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the Vee. The buffeting from the standard screen was just about bearable, so I will probably go for an MRA style replacement.
I had owned the Vee for over 2 weeks, and because of the problems I had with it, the bike had only been in my garage for a couple of nights. So I sent an email to CMC head office complaining about this. Got an e-mail back sating that they would send me a cheque for £200, and extend the warranty from 3, to 6 months, so I'm very pleased with the outcome.

Sounds like they are a decent outfit, many would have just tried to fob you off. I tried the tracer as well, just didn't feel right to me somehow.

I had the same problem with my 2009gt,  I took it to Junction 33 in Lancaster  who were recommended, he sorted it out by disconnecting the Lamba sensor and Dyno time. No more miss fire between 3/4 thousand Revs, an 4 more bhp.

Yes they do seem like a fair dealership.
It's what dealers do .... or don't do with a trade-in. They run the engine and spin the wheels. If all seems well they may change the oil and filter and get the 'boy' to give it good clean. They give you a three month warranty and let you do all the testing. If the bike doesn't come back then its happy days.  On a bike of that age the mark up will be about £800 so they don't have a big margin for road and bench testing. For this reason it is much more important to road test a used vehicle than a new one.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

I don't think they made much on the bike, they had just reduced the price by £800. CMC don't tend retail bikes around that age. Maybe they did on this occasion, as the condition of the bike was better than the 2 year old Honda VFR800x Crossrunner I sold earlier this year.

Well done you and CMC. The situation could have left you with a bad taste in your mouth but they, CMC have acted with honour, what a breath of fresh air. As for your ride home; sounds great despite the rain :thumb:
