Recently bought some insurance from Bennetts in late June for both my bikes which was paid in full.
Received a letter today saying my policy has been cancelled from the 6th of July..!! .
I've never made a call to them to cancel the policy, all this has been done without my knowledge , no emails just a letter which has arrived 10days late.
So , I've been riding around for nearly 10days WITHOUT insurance  :icon_batterup:.
They have even refunded me my money..
My bikes are not on sorn because I didn't know about the cancelled policy so maybe I'm liable for fines ?
Anyone know where I stand legally on this ?

Bloody idiots ..!!  :GRR:

Keep all copies of letters and envelopes they came in if poss showing postage date.

With regard to cancellation. Did they say why? Did you send off / upload any documents they asked for eg NCD or licence details? Did you forget to declare any points/accidents?
A lot of insurance brokers just cancel the policy for the smallest of reasons now.

I recently had an issue with Adrian Flux as I had made a mistake on the form and they were charging 35 to rectify it so I rang to cancel - I explained why and just asked to cancel as the policy wasn't due to start for another week. They just dropped the charge.
So if Bennetts haven't given a good reason I would ring and ask what the problem is.

The insurance check for SORN isn't that quick so you'll be OK if you get it sorted ASAP.

No reason given yet as I only got the letter sometime today . I arrived home from work , found the letter , called them but they were closed.
They have seen my NCB and I have all emails that have been sent / received (including my certs) after I paid them.

I have zero points on my licence, over 16 years NCB (9years max)with my previous insurers, I never lie leaving insurers zero chance to void my policy.
What bothers me is they decided to send me a letter 10 days after they have cancelled my policy and refunded virtually all of the money I've paid them (which is strange !), leaving me to ride with no insurance.
What if any of my bikes got stolen in that period or if I'd had an accident in some way ? These people are going to pay...  :icon_batterup:

This is very odd. Call them asap when they next open. I'd be pretty p$$$ed off if I were in your situation too. I'd also complain to whichever body regulates them as they should have told you they were cancelling at the time they did so you could avoid riding illegally etc.

Was the previous owner insured with them ? They may have cancelled his (now yours) by mistake.

All sorted..  :thumb: . Turns out it was human error on their part. I called then on the 6th july to check out a some details about the policy and the person I spoke to somehow managed to cancel my policy.
Now been sold me another (cheaper 😉) policy with full breakdown cover thrown in including europe .
Have to say they delt with it rather well assuring me I wouldn't have had any issues if any accured and future fines / problems will be delt with by them ... thumbs up all around .  :thumb:

That has to be the first positive review of Bennetts Insurance I have seen, even if it did follow straight after a slating  :smirk:

I used them once, many years ago and have to say, I would sooner set fire to my head than ever use them again.

Glad you are sorted though  :thumb:

feckin hell, that was a cracking read as I scrolled through this , kwackboy - my pulse was racing and the anger stoking up nicely, almost to letter-writing frenzy ### - until I got to where it was just a mistake, and is all sorted lol Phew! Glad it's all OK

I was totally surprised as to how they handled it and to be honest I was ready to move onto another insurer after I unloaded some abuse.

My pet hate is insurance companies and when that time of year comes around I find dealing with them is a chore even a company that I've been with since I was a teenager and I guess everyone has their ups and downs with different insurers so this is why I've stayed with them so long but Carole Nash was quoting me 4 figure sums to insure my gtr1400 and cb500f . I'm middle aged with more NCB Years than I need and been riding all my life so there is no way on this earth I'm paying a 4 figure sum to insure my bikes .

Bennetts came in cheapest so I went with them begrudgingly, let's hope I don't need to use them .. :groan:

Good to hear they sorted it out without fuss.
I am with Bennetts this year as my previous broker annoyed me when I changed from an FJR to the Strom.
Likely as not I'll be with a different company next year.

I had a very simular issue last year except I found out when I had an accident. Mine was an auto renewal they failed to action.
Their argument was I should have called when I didn't recieved my new cert, granted I probably should have but I had a letter clearly stating it will "auto renew you do not need to do anything".
Ultimately they did acknowledge their wrong doing but I ended up paying to fix the chaps bumper I ran into. As it was cheaper than my excess and any increased premium.
Dread to think what would have happened if it had been a major accident and I was incapacitated for any reason.

Although bennets were completely sympathetic to the problem knowing nothing had happened I'm  pretty confident that if I'd had an accident / theft of some sort the outcome would be completely different with some serious threats of legal action being thrown back and forth.

Glad it was sorted.

On a more general note, if you buy purely on price don't be surprised if the service is shit or they charge you large administrative fees to change any minor detail. Sometimes you will be pleasantly surprised by buying cheapest, often times not.

That has to be the first positive review of Bennetts Insurance

I've heard of so many complaints about Bennett's, I too would avoid them if at all possible.
Unless it's got two wheels and an engine slung in the middle, I'm not interested.

I was with Carole Nash for many years,  I'm sure there are many bad reviews. Thankfully I've never needed their services so apart from renewing my policy every year that's the only dealings I've had with generally good customer service.
With that said, I hope I never need Bennetts services either so fingers crossed.

Come renewal I shall be contacting Carole Nash for another quote hoping they won't be offering me a policy with a 4 figure sum ..😩

Been there with allianz. Enquired about business insurance, was too dear, company van driver was driving me between 3 sites. 6 months later my policy was voided because "policyholder was using car to commute to more than 1 place of work". long story short: it took me 3 years to get rid of void from history and approx 2000 in extra premiums(gave up driving for a year). Solicitors fees(~4500) were refunded by Allianz, never use them again.
