2012 V-Strom - I'm in love (just don't tell the wife!)
« on: February 21, 2018, 11:41:02 »
A quick pic om my beloved 2012 650 V-Strom. Bought from Completely Motorbikes in Staverton, Gloucestershire (and thoroughly recommended) with 10,600 miles on clock in August 2017, but in lovely "as new" condition. As of today has an extra 7500 glorious miles on the clock, and by August will have done a whole lot more (no commuting miles) Trips planned include a 3000 mile trip around France using Eurocamp's excellent facilities in the Somme, Loire, Dordogne, Auvergne, Port Grimaud, Annecy, and Jura sites. A tour of Scotland and the Lakes will follow. What a capable and enjoyable bike - marvellous.
You'll never find yourself flying down the road wishing you were wearing less protective clothing.

Nice, and you are so right about the ‘capable and enjoyable’ aspect.
It may not be a GS, it’s certainly no R1, and neither is it a CRF, but it is a supremely able, competent, and enjoyable bike to own.
For my usage, I can’t think of anything better.

Shame not to dip deeper into Alps once in Annecy. Best aspect of Wee and Vee is tank range. plan refuels every 200 miles, if planned garage is shut you still have 40-90 miles to play with.

Thanks Sasquatch. We have two nights near Annecy and 2 nights at Lac du Chalain in the Jura, and it's only 83 miles by the quickest route between them, so we should have quite a bit of time both on the way in to Annecy, our spare day riding and then the onward journey to Doucier. May not have time to delve into Switzerland for some of the famous passes, but it'll be lovely anyway. Party of four of us - two DL650's, a Harley and a Harley Trike. We are calling this our "Care in the Community Tour" in honour of the Harley riders! (no offence intended)

Love that particular colour.
I have a good friend who has owned 2 BMW gs's and now owns a V strom 650, he says its one of the best bikes he's ever owned.
I've never ridden the 650 but I think its high time I did as I've never heard a bad thing said about them.

One thing that surprised me is just how capable my 650 wee was around the Alps. They just love to tip into those tight corners and the torque of the twin pulls it out with ease. Surprised me the first time my boot scrubbed the road.
I think the wee is the fastest corning bike I have... but I am doing a track day on my SuperDuke in June so I expect it will take title after that.
