I have my things ready that I would like to fit under the seat to take to the dealers at the weekend ,so I would just need to look at what to remove in order to have the same space on a new 2018 model .
Also can the Suzuki rear carrier take a Givi top plate that I have or do I need some extra bracing on the carrier to take the weight of the box?

Do you have the plate that came with topbox? If yes, well, you can use it but you'll need to drill extra holes into the carrier and it'll never be strong enough. I've done it that way and then later purchased SR3112 kit that comes with stronger plate and all metal hardware that uses subframe to support the topbox. It's great now but the carrier has been drilled already. Well, the holes are hidden but anyway. I should've gone with SR3112 or SRA3112 (alloy plate) from the beginning that doesn't need drilling anything into the carrier.

I have fitted the GIVI SRA3105 rack . Fits a treat and very little wobble when top box loaded. It has extra strengthening bars underneath for the weight.

'18 model has narrower subframe then '14 model, so 3105 wouldn't fit. It needs 3112. I did fit 3105 on my '18 model but it required heavy modification.

When I start  negotiation  on a deal I might have a better chance of getting the Suzuki rack do you know if the Suzuki top box and Givi top boxes are interchangeable or should I just stick with the full Givi kit?

The 2017 model uses a slightly modified SRA3112 which is the metal plate version of the Givi rack, it should work I say slightly modified because the supports are slightly different but the plate is standard Givi.

Suzuki and Givi topboxes and supports are not interchangeable as far as I understand.

Normally I'd agree with you but they have two offerings, one which clearly isn't Givi because they claim the bigger top box has compatibility issues with the OE panniers, but they actually list the other rack as a Givi item and its part number is 990D0-31J00-060, its description reads as follows.

"GIVI Top Case Carrier Plate For GIVI Top Case 990D0-E5500-000. Part No. 990D0-31J00-060"

I've also seen this rack in person and it does look exactly the same as the plate offered with the SRA3112 its just the lower steel supports that slot under the OE plastic carrier that appear to be slightly different.

Thanks Paz , that part number will be on my list for negotiation.

I was told at the NEC show that Suzuki would be keeping the £750 accessory offer on until 31/12/17 but it looks like the grey model will not be in stock until after this date so I would have to see what I can squeeze out of the deal if this is the case.

PAZ324 That is the GIVI rack I have on my 16 plate Vee and it works a treat. Nice and solid very little movement or bounce when the box  is fitted.

Well we had a sit on the 2015 V-strom and the wife said she would be happy to go on one.

Looking under the seat there is enough room for our super pro Autocom and I think I can find a spot for my Fuzeblock power hub once I remove the emissions canister.
My dealer just need to find a delivery date for the grey model from Suzuki before we can finalise a deal.

a riding mate of mine and I both have 2014 models. Both totally reliable and hassle free after 40,000 kms or so.
The standard screen is not great but we've both fitted the improved screen from the 2017 model which is far better and cheap as chips to do.
We both have standard panniers too. He with top box, me with mid size tail bag. In each case we can pack what we need for a multi-dayer.
I had clutch mods done to reduce chattering noise at idle, he didn't need to -  they vary but reliability isn't an issue here.
Each of our bikes has better fuel consumption now as they've freed up. Cruising around at legalish speeds and just enjoying meandering rural roads it's not unusual to see 24 kms per litre (4.2L/100kms or 70 MPG imperial).
Seats are fine for us over long days - just not an issue at all. My wife has done 480kms days as pillion on 2 occasions and is totally comfortable providing she gets her 2 hourly coffee break.
Neither of us has plans to change bikes - we enjoy every ride .

Looks like they added a grey model recently, before yellow black and white were the only options.

Yes we saw it at the NEC and I liked it and that is why I will not be able to pick it up until March.
I am just glad that the Suzuki offer of £750 worth of accessories is on until the end of March.

Taking the Kawasaki in today it did feel smooth but it was not a long enough run for my hands to start going numb.

Started to look out for aftermarket parts which will keep me occupied until it turns up.

I have the same model in white, if you're interested in a high level ram mount for a GPS you can find my review of the Ravetech mount below.

Vibration is great in comparison to the last version, I can live with it as is but if you want reduce vibration to a minimum the screens ratchet system will need its springs swapped out.

Only other thing I fitted was my Givi topbox rack, I'm on PCP at the moment so my accessories are limited.

I have gone for the Givi top box plate as the wife will only go on the back is she has a box on the bike.
The Sat Nav mount looks good and it could be an option but I will have to wait until I have the bike as I already have a bar mount kit and also the Sat Nav mount that was on the Kawasaki which I might be able to alter to fit.
I am also looking at fitting some Renthal fat bars that I have so I will need to get some sort of bar converter as the ones off the XT version are a bit pricey.

Not much would get me to change my Glee, but an 800 version with shaft drive and not too much heavier would do it.
Hopefully Moto Guzzi’s proposed V85 will come in both A and X versions and fill in if Suzuki don’t see the opportunity.
Perhaps the big bike blokes would like a 1200 instead of the 1000 as well. Wishful thinking....

I still can’t figure out why the Transalp doesn’t have the shaft drive of the NTV’s.?
As you say, there’s a definite market for a more frugal, and maintenance free smaller Adventure bike.
An open goal sales wise surely..
