Tyres showing cracks
« on: October 15, 2017, 11:25:04 »
Hi

I have a 2016 plate and only covered 7500 and I have noticed on the front Bridgstones small splits or cracks from the side wall is this normal?  the tyre itself is hardly worn bit disturbing has any one else had similar issues

Check the DOT date, you should see four digits.

xx16 would mean 2016 and the first two digits refer to the week in the year. if its not that old I'd consider complaining to the dealer or the tyre manufacturer to try and bag a new set as they shouldn't of perished after only a year.

As above, assuming it's not been ridden/stored on flat/under inflated tyres.

If I could get 7.5K miles from a tyre I'd be delighted. Currently 1000 miles into my 3rd set of hoops on my 2016 V-Strom 1000 with just over 8K on the clock

On the side of the tyre you will have a series of numbers and the final 4 digits give you the week and year of manufacture.
Bridgestone tyres in my experience tend to go off / crack before other makes, even after a couple of years.

I have a 2015 glee with oem bridgestones and after 7500 miles my front tyre was showing signs of tearing on the edges even though the tread was still fairly good. I thought 7500 miles wasn't bad ( the back was starting to square off quite badly) I've changed to bt023 , really happy with them so far, bike seems to turn in much quicker and feel more planted. I had bt023 on my 650 bandit but they only managed 4000 miles but I understand they have now put harder compound in the middle so that should help. 1500 miles in so far and not a sign of any wear yet. :lala:
