Low chair?
« on: August 19, 2015, 21:54:48 »
I need a low seat in my tent so I can sit off the floor / ground. A standard height chair is too tall for my tent and at my age I struggle to get off the floor. I don't want one of those three legged stool things as they wreck groundsheets and sink in soft ground. I was thinking of making a wooden box to fit in my Kirky bag. Any other suggestions?

How about one of THESE? They fold down to nothing, weigh almost nothing and will support 120Kg.

My wife uses one to reach into the top of her wardrobes. They are plenty sturdy enough and the footprint should be enough to stop it sinking in grass.

Not sure of weight, but not bad. Comes with a bag. Field tested and haven't collapsed on me or owt! :)

I have one of those, they pack up small and are very light too. The poles flex, but they can carry a lot of weight. Both Locky and Gray also have these, I tried theirs before buying mine. I find it very comfortable to sit in and I've event sat sleeping in it without falling over/getting uncomfortable. The feet will get stuck in the mud if it's soft, but they only slide in to a point and then it's solid to sit on. I've sat on it inside a tend and it's not damaged the groundsheet, but I'd feel more sure about not damaging the tent if I had something under them, even a folded newspaper stuck under the feet should do.

I have one of the Helinox chairs. They've had the yellow ones on offer in millets for ages. Normal price is around £90.
The helinox ones are better quality than the cheap Chinese ones but pays your money, take a chance.

They are quite comfy, but no arms or can holder and take some practice to get out of them without flexing the poles too much.
Get 4 rubber end caps for walking sticks to make a slightly larger footprint for the poles or they dig straight in.

I've had a cheap chinese knock helinox for 3/4years now. Always dutifully done its job! And has been pretty good quality. I did put some walking stick/rubber end bungs on the feet, because they were so small they kept sinking and getting lost

I think the newer rip-offs have them bungee corded on so they come out...

I use a Alite Mayfly . It sits lower than the Helinox, and works better in a tent because the weight is spread over a larger area. I've seen people use tennis balls over the end of the Helinox legs to stop it sinking into soft ground or trying to puncture your groundsheet.

I have gone for the MartinW solution as unlike the others I can, at least, stand on it to reach the top shelves in the kitchen.

Noticed these are on sale this Sunday in Aldi

Similar to the one MartinW suggested, and only £4.
They have folding bucket and a folding wash basin too.. utter madness   :dl_hyperhysteria:
