Insurance recommendations?
« on: July 17, 2017, 17:04:19 »
Having read a number of posts regarding bad experiences with bike insurance providers. Are there any positive stories anybody would like to share?

Unlikely, I'd say ....  all the insurers seem to be (how can I put this kindly?) money-grabbing shysters.

Although my recent experience with MCE (and their pet lawyers, Fletchers) ended OK, it took them 7 months, and many emails, phone calls etc from me to settle what should have been a straightforward claim - not helped by the lawyers going completely dormant for more than a month!
I'm now insured by LV, who came up with a sensible quote, unlike others (I think LV have only recently started touting for motorcycle business - and it may help that I have a couple of cars with them already).
FWIW, Carole Nash offered me a ridiculous quote ... as I recall about £900

I agree but you never know, there might be one out there that actually gives a good service. Interesting you're with LV, they are on my list for a quote this year.
It wasn't like this when I started riding in the mid-seventies.

I went with Carole Nash this year as they offered EU recovery and I like to tour. I was with Hastings before and although OK for rates offered only UK cover

I was with CN a couple of years ago. OK apart from rip off charges for changes, cancellation etc. Still I guess they're not alone in that respect. It was the jobsworth attitude of the person on the phone that lost my custom.

My last one was with MCE. I didn't have claims, but I think they were fairly transparent in their fees and hassle-free when I had to cancel my policy. Also nice that they don't require you to notify them of your trips abroad, as long as you stay within their stated time limits.

Hello!
For those of you based on UK, Could I have your thoughts on Hastings insurance? Right now they are offering me the cheapest quote.

What's yours personal preferences regarding breakdown recovery? Thanks!

I'm also with Hastings (they were also still cheapest come renewal time, interestingly).  No problems, but as the only interaction I've had with them is (a) to purchase a policy and (b) renew a policy, I'm not sure how helpful that is.

Breakdown cover? Autoaid - £43/year, including vehicle recovery, covered for any vehicle. Called them out twice over the years I think (though only in a car) - no problems at all.

Thank you Freddyfruitbat  :icon_wink:
I hope my only interaction between them and me is purchase and renew too, hehehe.

I have been with Bennetts for a few years and no problem. I would avoid MCE like the plague.

I'd avoid Carole Nash too. Customer service is shocking and unresponsive. I'd rather gouge my own eyes out with a screwdriver dipped in dog shit than put money in their pockets.

I'd avoid Carole Nash too. Customer service is shocking and unresponsive.

Just shows you how variable an experience you can have with a company: I have my 2 vintage bikes insured with CN and always find them to be there when I call & have saved me a few £ by swapping policy type when I added the Guzzi, rather than sting me for a mid year admin charge.

Still wouldn't trust them with the family silver though: they are out to gather in money at the bottom line, like every company out there.

I also had a great experience with Carole Nash for many years. Always were the cheapest until I swapped my Vee for a GTR1400 . They somehow wanted £2000+ for both my bikes insisting the GTR had to be fully comp when the previous year when I had the Vee was a mere £250 tpft.
Upon advise that I was no spotty little 16 year-old wannabe racer I asked them to check the quote 3 times thinking they made a mistake but no, still the same £2000+ quote.
The lady whom I was speaking to said this qoute was outrageous and advise me to look elsewhere and come back as a new customer next year .

I moved to Bennetts who I don't like but were cheap and shall retry with Carole Nash next year

I'm with Bennetts and I've had no problems with them, I've also got breakdown cover with them and I had to use it earlier this year, they recovered me and bike. :thumb: My son was with them when a car pulled out on him and sent him over top off the car bonnet and rolling down the road. one phone call and they took over and got him sorted with solicitor, bike bike assessment, physio, and he got paid more for his bike than he paid for it. :thumb:
