My first v strom

Hi all, although I’m in my late 50’s I have only just started bike riding after putting it off for many years.
I learned to ride on a BMW 650cs, which was fine, however I have finally purchased my first proper bike, my 2007 v strom with 19000 miles and is in truely stunning condition.
However can anyone tell me is it normal with these bikes for the gearbox to be a bit whiny through the gears, the box performs perfectly well..just a thought.
