GPS mount for Vstrom 650 2017
« on: March 05, 2018, 15:49:11 »
Hello everyone,

I have just purchased a new TomTom GPS to guide me on my vstrom rides.
I would appreciate if you could share with me any proper mounts you are using and any tips on the installation.
I bought the Givi bar but it's too thin and it vibrates too much...

Thanks and regards from sunny Spain...

Try some Ram mounts you can adjust them how you like all kinds of mounts. :thumb:

I ended up making a basic mount from a piece of flat steel bar I had and an old ram mount ball....  just twisted each end 90 degrees (heated it up) and drilled holes to match the windscreen mounting bolts.  Best to make it too long then just bend the bar until the holes line up...  very quick and easy and quite stable but not very posh!

I bought one of these from Ravetech https://ravetechmotorcycles.com/store/en/Suzuki-DL650-v-strom/33-DL650-2018-accessory-mount.html
Its quite solid fits under the screen using the same bolts, have mounted my Tom Tom to it and puts it right in the line of sight when riding. Was on the bars at first but found that quite distracting. It did take a while to arrive but Its good quality and reasonably priced even inc postage costs.
It also has a couple more holes on the mount so could add some more ball mounts for other accessories.

If you never use a tank bag this mount works well

I have one of these and also have a home made cross bar fixed via the screen mount bolts. the crossbar is OK, but does vibrate/wobble a little bit.

Thanks, that was one of my options but, doesn´t it vibrate too much being attach to the screen bolts? At least that happens with the Givi bar I´ve tried...

I use the Cosmo mount, but you need an adapter IIRC to mount a Tom Tom.....

I think the vibration depends on the quality of the cross brace you use, I think if mine was thicker/stronger vibration may be reduced, but then it becomes more difficult to fix in place, as the crossbar has to clear the clocks when you tilt the screen backwards and forwards.

I found the Ravetech one to be reasonably vibration free, there is little bit of movement but no more than I expected. I have been using the standard ram arm that came with the kit and as long as its done up tight doesn't move and the screen has always been clear so personally would recommend it.
