Anakee 3's again
« on: April 10, 2018, 18:57:26 »
Yep, after 17,800 kms (11,000+ miles) I'm putting another set of Anakee 3's on my bike. As with most tyres you get a preference for a tyre if it's done you well......  :thumb: They aren't down to their limit but I've got some longer trips coming up and both tyres are tired (see what I did there?) and show a recurrent manufacturing line between tread pattern all round and that's a bit of a concern if only visual.. And they've been on the bike for nearly three years too.

There are other options in the Michelin range but I believe PR4's don't last and it's too early for any feedback on Road 5's (if they're in V-Strom 650 sizes). I've never had any interest in Bridgestones, don't know why but like I said..... Dunlops on another bike wouldn't do more than 8k kms! Pilot Activs were much better. Is it because I'm 'French'?
So how's it going so far then?

Just put a pair of 5's on this week. See how they do as opposed to the 4's I had on last.

I do like the fours, be interested in how these other tyres hold up, and grip in the wet, which is a strength of the PR4.

4's were great for grip and ...just doing the maths and checking my home made service log.....The front did 15,800 miles and I had two rears on in that time. One lasted 7,500 miles and the other lasted 8,300. That was a mix of two up fully loaded, solo, a lot of mountain roads, and some spirited riding. Hope the 5's last a bit longer.

Thanks for the info. I was surprised I only got one front for one rear on the Anakees. Then again I think 7-8k for your PR4 rear is nowhere near economic. Can't win!

Well I am going to force myself to try the Anakee 3's after these wear out but it's going to be hard to change. I suppose it's like finding that perfect pair of underpants, you are loathe to take them off...or is that just me?

Just like a tyre I suppose, depends how you've used them!  lol

One things for sure I'd rather throw an old pair of underpants away.........

I got around 11,500 from my OEM, Anakee 3s and PR4s.

I've now got Dunlop Roadsmart 3s on, they handle and grip really well though I think they provide a harsher/firmer ride.

I'll probably go back to PR4s next though the Anakees were also good.

My Glee is going in for new Anakee 2's on Tuesday, apparently they are quite good for my age & style of riding.  Comments welcome!! :old:

I tried Anakees on my former Triumph 1200 Explorer. Excellent tyres, but they slowed the steering of the bike somewhat compared to the previous Tourances. I never thought much of it until the local Shop were doing a promotion for Dunlop Trailsmarts. So I got a set and immediately noticed that the quicker steering similar to the Tourances was restored. The grip was excellent also solo or two up wet or dry. I have been using them ever since.

Unnecessary quote removed

I love them! But as you point out they are very noisy, great pointy profile good for my style of riding " Tip it in" I tended to run them a little softer than recommended on my Supertenere 1200 when I had that, and it acted like an extra bit of suspension but stuck like shit to a blanket on the road, I have a pair in my loft ready to go on my Wee  :thumb:

Had 2 sets Anakee 2, only for road riding...pretty good but a fair bit of tyre noise, due to tread pattern, about 14k miles average on them before changing. Changed to Anakee 3, much more confidence wet or dry, quieter, but on 12k now and front looking worn, probably change in next 1k ! So seem better, but wear quicker!
For my confidence and chicken strips, will be getting more Anakee 3....soon.

Oddly enough, need new front Anakee 3 at 13,200 miles, but rear has another 4-5k miles in it! Wearing front before rear abit strange, anyone else had this with A3's??
(Btw 100% road riding!)

 Cheers

Yes, two sets of Anakee 3's and both fronts wore faster than the rear! First set changed at 13k (miles) but rear would have gone longer, second set changed at 9k but only because we were going on a long tour. Both had plenty miles left at 9k.

Yes, I got the same  but the front didn't look right, it became very angular.
So how's it going so far then?
