Title: Madstad Complete System
Post by: Sezyu on July 14, 2017, 02:16:17
I recently bought a 2014 V-strom 650 after reading the reviews and lurking around this site. Great bike, but as expected needs a Windscreen  change. I ordered a MRA touring, just as bad. I ordered a Madstad from a vendor only to find out later that the madstd for 2012-2014 needs a Windscreen  for 2004-2011?? This IS noted on the Madstad site, so can't blame them. They're both going back.

Has anyone tried the Madstad Complete Windscreen  System? I like the look of the grey tint, and the shape matches the lines well.

I recently bought a Givi airflow screen, I did 2500 miles around Holland, Germany and Austria, and if I'm honest I can't fault it. Wish the pictures would come out the right way up  :dl_smiley_banghead:

I had the Madstad bracket fitted to my 2013 V-Strom 650 and yes it needed a screen from a 2004 - 2011 model. First screen I tried was a Givi Touring one.... that was a fail.... wasn't impressed with it at all, tried all sorts of combinations of angle/height etc but gave up thinking I had wasted my money. Then I bought the Givi Air Flow screen, a really ugly looking fecker of a screen but it works for me. I am not changing it for anything else, I've transferred the whole set up onto my 2015 bike and 4 years on still happy with it. For the record I'm 5' 10" with 31" inside leg, I keep the top part of the screen (the sliding section) at it's lowest position and ride with my visor up no problem. Money well spent I reckon.

Thanks for the responses. I've read the posts about the Givi Airflow and I'm sure when, coupled with the Madstad, it's probably as good as it gets. But the price of that is way over my budget and I've always favored a tinted screen.
I've read great reviews of the Madstad system, and even it is more than I wanted to spend. But it is cheaper and I like the look better. The basic principle of the two systems seems the same. The screen on the FJR I had created a similar effect as the screen was raised, air flowed through the bottom and it was great
Since I already have the bracket, I just ordered the Madstad Adventure in a medium tint. May well be, as I've done many times, "penny wise and pound foolish", but I'll post the results.

The Madstad Windscreen  arrived yesterday. Easy install with the brackets. I ordered the 18" in medium tint and it looks great on my red 650. I took it out for a test ride and am very impressed. I'm 5'11" with a 32" in seam. I experimented with moving it up and down and changed the angle a few times. Every setting was a big improvement over the stock. The brackets are mounted at the top setting and I settled on the top setting for the Windscreen , with a slight in-ward tilt, basically, very close to the 60 degree slant suggested by Madstad. At that setting it's a very quiet air pocket, I look over the screen and there's just enough air flow to know you're on a motorcycle. I've mounted Aprilia mirrors that really help also. So, I'm very please and giving it *****.
(Sorry, I'm not techy enough to post pictures.)

Here's the Madstad bracket on a Glee with a 19" MP screen, the forerunner of Madstad screens.

I must be odd but.. I can't fault the original standard Suzuki screen on my '13 Glee.
I seem to sit in an almost still air void behind it on the standard middle setting, wouldn't swap it for owt.

Thanks for the photo assist, Greywolf. Sure looks the same. And thanks for the vstrom ID summary. Can't wait to tell my Harley buddy my bike is a "Glee".
