Do I need a centre stand?
« on: October 28, 2008, 18:45:11 »
Anyone any idea what percentage of V-stroms have had a  centre stand fitted?

I'm picking up a new 650X on saturday, and am wondering if I should have asked for
one as part of the deal.

what's the pro's and con's  ... ?

Thanks,
Ian

My 1000 has one fitted and I'm glad it has. It makes chain lubing and adjustment so much easier and makes doing any jobs on the bike safer as it is upright and stable

I agree, a useful edition on any bike. It's not like you need to worry about the weight as perhaps with a sports bike.

I try never to use my Side-stand following an embarrassing situation...Bike on it's Side-stand outside a shop, the road had a fairly extreme camber, left the shop, slung fat leg over the Strom, gave the bike a slight unintentional shove forward which resulted in me laying the bike down

How much ?

You ought to be able to get some kind of deal if you're buying the bike off 'em.  I went to a couple of places.  One knocked money off any accs and fitted for free, the other would throw in the accs for free and charge fitting - I wanted centre stand and heated grips and wouldn't be without either.

In the end I had them fitted to a three month old ex-demo bike and got a really good price.  Didn't get to see how they broke it down though.

Brand loyal ?  Nope - anything will do if its got two wheels and an engine !

I had already got money off the new cost, as well as heated grips and a top box supplied
and fitted for no charge.

I think they are going to fit the centre stand for free, so the cost will be 140.   The one on
ebay is 109 plus 9 p&p, so only 22 quid dearer when you look at it that way.
