Suck it & see - Lidl oil removal pump

Noticed these on the Lidl website, anyone used them.?
Can you actually get to the bottom of the engine and get all the oil out.?
Was thinking it’d be handy for fork oil removal too.

Was mainly interested for the car, as it’s a pain crawling about underneath but as they hold much more oil, you could probably get a larger percentage out, and of course filters are usually pretty easy to access.
Any thoughts folks.?

I thought about one for about 20 seconds. 7 litres engine oil 5 Min's/litre, I think 35 Min's may flatten my battery.

I can see it would be good for small amounts of oil.

Never used one but I noticed on the service sheet for my car that says the oil must be drained using the sump plug, as the pump leaves too much dirty oil behind.

I have a manual pump that I use on cars / bikes that gets most of the oil out.
I used to use one at work when I worked on standby generators.
Works on suction, stands about 850mm tall and holds 7 or 8 litres.

Made by sealy if memory serves right, was 50 quid about 10 years ago, still going strong.

I bought one last year for some reason that now escapes me.
The pump itself worked fine, but the hoses are not great as they come out of the box: the thinner feed tube is too narrow to be much use and the connector to the pump itself was a constant source of resistance. Basically it wouldn't suck up oil until I swapped it for larger bore tube, then it worked a charm.

Damned if I can remember what I got it for - it was used oil, but no recollection where from...

Draining oil from the sump plug pulls out all the muck etc that can collect in the oil pan,giving as good a job as you can get without dropping the pan, which we can't do on our bikes, these pumps leave the worst dregs behind.
Our bikes need good fresh oil,as long as your careful doing up the sump plug, maybe installing a new copper washer with fresh annealing so it has not gone hard, and draining as per Suzuki instructions, is even easier than faffing about with pumps for a less thorough evacuation of the old oil.

And looking at where the oil filler is on the 'Strom, I wouldn't think you could (easily) get the oil suction pipe from the pump anywhere near the lowest point of the sump (too much"stuff" in the way), so you wouldn't be able to suck up much of the oil anyway. Different with car/boat engines, where the oil dipstick tube is generally the point of entry, and of course this leads straight to the sump.

Wonder if this would pump fuel from a 5 gallon Jerry can up to the bikes tank?

Unless it's specifically listed as suitable for pumping petrol, I wouldn't try it. It only needs a little spark to ignite petrol vapour, and I'd be surprised if this pump's motor is "sparkproof".

I connected a fine tube to a vacuum cleaner. Once the pipe is full of oil put the free end in a bucket which is lower than the sump and leave it to syphon out overnight.

I use one of these, it was included in the purchase price and is always with me if I'm out on the bike.
