Metzler Tourance Next

Standard Bridgestones lasted just over 3K on the new V-strom 1000 and Pirelli Angels are getting close to the limit at around 3.5K (might just get another 500 miles). The never ending quest for tyre life continues so I'll give the Metzlers a try.

That`s not a lot of miles out of tyres ????  Our 2014 DL1000 is about due new tyres at 18000 miles !! (Anakee 2`s)

I run Tourance Nexts on my R1200GSA and get well over 15K out of them

Your doing well old git! I thought I was bad only getting 5k from the oe and the same from the Bridgestone a40 replacements. Your grippy Scottish roads don't help, I always wear my tyres more on my Scottish tours than my Irish ones. I'd like to try pr4's but mileage worrys me, I knackered a pr3 in 4k before.

My local roads seem to be the only explanation I can come up with for the lousy mileage from tyres. The roads are for the most part seriously grippy but tyre life seems to be the price that's paid. I don't ride particularly slowly but neither do I ride with the throttle constantly pinned. My FJR1300 also returns terrible tyre life. I generally get better mileage when abroad but this year on the FJR I had to get tyres changed near Barcelona with barely 3K on Bridgestone T30GT's. Seriously expensive  :groan:

I'm hoping the Metzlers last a bit longer!

Must be your roads then!  I ride over 10K a year and was getting around 10K out of Bridgestone Battalax BT021`s on my Blackbird as well !

You won`t be disappointed with Tourance Nexts. 

Looking at my receipts I was slightly optimistic on the GSA mileage its nearer 12k out of a tyre not 15  :grin:

I'm getting a great deal this weekend on a set of the old style Metz tourance, costing not much more for the set than I'd pay for a new rear Metz Roadtec 01,
I like the looks of the old style tourance too, wonder if I'll miss the better grip of the Roadtecs? think I have something like 6500 miles done and there is still plenty life left in them yet.

I don't think you will be disappointed with the older tourances, I personally didn't have any issues with the 3 sets I got through, they had plenty of grip in the wet and great in the dry. On average I got around 6-7k but most of that mileage was two up.

There is a reason why metzeler still sell loads of them .

Thanks,I'll give the tourance a try so, the Roadtecs have been a great tyre.

The heading is “Metzeler Tourance Next” but the conversation is talking about the “old Tourance”.In my opinion the “Next” version is a much better tyre than the “old”version.They last much longer and are streets in front in handling and stability,the old one is wishy washy in my opinion.Stick with the “Next”version,the extra cost is far outweighed by their longevity.

Whatever am I doing wrong?  :grin: I've never got more than 3,000 miles from a rear tyre on any bike I've owned in the last 20 years... I've used Dunlops, Metezlers, Michelins, Maxxis and Bridgestones, sticky sports, sports touring and so called adventure/dual purpose types. The current Bridgestone on the Vee has done 2,500 and has maybe another 500 left. I'll probably fit some A40/A41s in the spring. When I was still in the UK and doing a week's touring(?) with some mates in France every year covering about 2,500 miles, a new set was fitted before going and a new set on return. That was on a VFR800, a ZX6R 636, a BMW R1100SS and the Vee over several trips. Have to say we didn't hang about, especially in the South and the Pyrenees. Maybe I should get the new 250......

Bit late probably... I still feel like a teenager when on a bike, although hopefully with a bit more common sense and experience learned over the years. Just hope it lasts for the Moto Legends weekend at Dijon next May when I'll be taking the old Honda 500 race bike for a blast...

IIRC many Strom owners tried these Tourance Next when they first came out and the EXP.

Consensus was they were shiyt.
Didn't last long and had some interesting handling characteristics. But I never tried them, Just stuck to my trusty Anakee 2's.

I tested a pair of the Roadtec 01's on the VaraBeast. - I was not impressed.
The dry & wet weather grip was very good, but the rear would slip when you least expected it at slight bank angles with little lateral load.
Front wore very unevenly and the rear lasted 6k until I could stand it no longer and had them swapped for Bridgestone A40's -

The A40's were a far cheaper tyre, but lasted 6.5k with 1.6mm left. Handling was far more predictable.
If I was doing the commuting and major road riding I was doing on the Varadero now I'd be having another set of A40's.

I had some Metezler Sportecs on the BMW R1100SS which were very good but didn't last long (rear less than 2000 miles) and fitted a set of Roadtecs (Z6s I think). They were OK and lasted a bit longer but the front would wash out alarmingly on black shiny tarmac in the wet and not at silly speeds either. The current Bridgestone (an 020) on the Vee does something similar but not as badly. This has never happened with the Bridgestone BW501s which I have had several of and suit the bike and the way I ride very well. It's interesting how different people like different tyres all on the same bike. I for example don't like Michelin car or bike tyres. I've use them on Ducatis and a VFR800 and couldn't get on with them at all.
